Spanish term or phrase: contratar activa o pasivamente rentas
I've a good look around for a credible translation of this and I'm even fairly sure I understand what it means, but I can't seem to render it in a way that convinces me.

This is one of a number of the powers listed in a power of attorney from the Balearic Islands:

"contratar activa o pasivamente rentas, pensiones y prestaciones periódicas, temporales o vitalicias, y su aseguramiento real"

My attempt is this:

"to enter into bargains as recipient or provider of regular, temporary or lifetime annuities, pensions and benefits, and where these may be used as direct collateral"

That last part (su aseguramiento real) is simply an educated guess as I think it might be synonymous with "garantía real", but I'm going to post that question next.

Thanks in advance.

English translation:contract to provide or receive annuities
Explanation:
the old "activo/pasivo" thing is whether you are the doer or the recipient of the act
I say "annuities" since it comes in the same breath as "pensions and other regular benefits"

contratar activa o pasivamente
engage in active or passive trading

Explanation:
Tough one but I believe this is the idea, given that contratar in the context of bienes / valores usually refers to trading.

Given my suggestion in the other question, you might consider "engage in active or passive trading and (firm?) undertaking of (...)" or somewhere along those lines.

Granted this is from stock market language point of view that may or may not be applicable to the context of those assets mentioned in your text.

Asker: Thanks, Seth. I'm not happy with using active and passive as I don't think it's something we use this way in English. Saludos.
