The Floor Area Ratio (FAR) or Floor Space Index (FSI) is the ratio of the total floor area of buildings on a certain location to the size of the land of that location, or the limit imposed on such a ratio.

Terminology

In Australia other terms are used for the same measure, such as "Floor Space Ratio (FSR)" in New South Wales[1] and "Plot ratio" in Western Australia.[2]

In India the term "Floor Space Index (FSI)" is used.[3]

In the United Kingdom the terms "Plot ratio" and "Site ratio" are used.[4]
