Taken from a brochure for a forklift truck. In a list of features for the 4x4, 3,000 kg model:
"**Puentes** delanteros y trasero 4x4 marca ZF, y **puente** trasero 4x2 de radio de giro reducido"
Rear and front... what??

I think axles is fine, but just out of interest, I did come across a couple of publications which actually used the word "bridges" to mean "axle" I put in a couple of links to them just for you to look at.
Example sentence:
The invention relates to an automotive vehicle with a telescopic load carrying arm, of the type comprising a rigid chassis carried by two front and rear bridges provided with wheels and a driver's cab mounted on said rigid chassis.
