Spanish term

la bautizada -con escaso laconismo-

Spanish to English Other Tourism & Travel
From a text on leisure events:

El estuvo en el proceso de fundación de la más antigua de éstas asociaciones, la bautizada -con escaso laconismo- (the long-winded name of an association).

Could "bautizada" be translated as "so-called" or is that straying a little too far?

Thanks in advance!

Peer comment(s):

disagree Steven Capsuto : "Laconism"? The word exists but I doubt that even 1% of English speakers could tell you what it means.

To answer your question about using "so-called", well, I wouldn´t for these reasons:

Definiciones de so-called en la web en inglés:

acting or being something in name only, but not in reality
encarta.msn.com/dictionary_1861683576/nominal.html

alleged(a): doubtful or suspect; "these so-called experts are no help"
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

I hope this clears it up :D
