I find correcting the computer output most fulfiling. Not that MT makes many errors anymore, but it is a prefect match for my eagle eyed proofreading skills. Nice to e-meet everyone here btw! | | | Lieven Malaise 比利时 Local time: 11:49 正式会员 (自2020) French法语译成Dutch荷兰语 + ...
But you have to put editing and translation together. It seems rather impossible to be a good editor without being a good translator. | | | Weclome abroad | Mar 20, 2023 |

Translation is my main and preferred professional activity, but I also offer editing, reviewing and/or proofreading, as well as transcreation and localization.
Lieven Malaise wrote: But you have to put editing and translation together. It seems rather impossible to be a good editor without being a good translator. MT does all the translation for me. I just editthe English. No translation skills necessary! I understand that many translators are suspicious of the new technology but you should really check out DeepL. ChatGTP is pretty cool too. It saves so much time. You just feed the text in and watch it materialise in near prefect English, lol. It's transformative! In a world where technology rarely works in your favour, it’s been so uplifting (and rewarding) to discover this new world of translation. I can’t get enough!

Nice to e-meet everyone here btw! Nice to meet you too! Personally, I hate PEMT, and these days I am not sure I like proofreading and editing either... I have always felt that PEMT calls for a completely different approach from translation, and it is going to be widely needed in the future, but I am just so thankful that I can simply pull out and retire when there is no more straight translation! I meet a block, and PEMT takes me ages! MT is absolutely NOT reliable, impressive as it is, in my languages. It retains too much of the source syntax, and does not always sound idiomatic. (Or if it does, it may stray away from the meaning.) But deep respect and good luck to those who can cope with PEMT!
Unless it now means an MT-powered service by default! Philippe

My current workload is probably around 50-50 between translation vs revision/proofreading/editing. If you'd asked me ten years ago, I would have said translation. | | | MollyRose 美国 Local time: 04:49 English英语译成Spanish西班牙语 + ...

... transcreation, extracting terms and creating terminology glossaries and termbases, and PEMT. I did a lot of reviewing in the past, but now not so often. And I miss subtitling, but due the very low rates, I have given up.

Please, show some respect for the profession and for who really is a competent and professional translator! One of the most important practical translation skills you must have as a translator is the ability to learn more about linguistics every day. Every job, no matter which industry, cannot be handled without having the necessary talent, studies, experience, skills and general knowledge. Without it, you won’t get anywhere. | | | 话题中的页数: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Which of these services is the main service you specialize in?
