I have an important customer who often sends me files as follows: the source file to be translated, an older source file which I am supposed to use as a base for the translation) and the tranlation of the latter file. I am working with Wordfast. I know that apparantly Trados has a function where you can compare the older and newer source files and come up with wourdcounts etc.. You should have a look at some functions in PlusTools, like Compare, Align and maybe Track. Wordfast itself doesn't offer the functionality I think you're looking for.

Gerard

Align the two older documents Sep 8, 2008

If you use the "Align" function in PlusTools you will come up with a TM which should help you a lot when doing the new translation. Depending on the lenght of these two documents it will take a little time to create the TM, since you have to check it manually, but at least you will have a good base for the new translation.

Thanks for your answers. It confirms what I thought. Ther problem is to make the quote. I think I will stay with my method of comparing the older and newer document with Word, copy the changes to a new document and make the count there. Afterwards make the align using PlusTools and create a tm. Best to you all. Zita

Why not use the WF analysis feature? After you've done the alignment, and you've created the TM, analyse the new file against the TM. WF will tell you how much of it is new.
