Friendly society / NGO / Non-Profit Organisation

Explanation:
Maot also suggests "friendly society":
http://www.maot.co.il/lex6/glossary/g_3222.asp

It could well be a (מוסד ללא כוונת רווח (מלכ"ר - Non-Profit Organisation or a ארגון חוץ-ממשלתי (NGO)...without more context it's hard to be sure.

The question is whether we are talking about ‘עמותה’ in the local, Israeli context, as defined by the Law; in this case, you have to adopt the language of the Law, which distinguishes between ‘AMUTOT’ – “NON-PROFIT ASSOCIATIONS”, Public Benefit Companies and Endowments, which all belong to the Non-Profit Organizations branch in the Justice Ministry Corporations Authority (see http://www.justice.gov.il/NR/rdonlyres/EE9D052B-A07F-477D-97...

Re Asker's note:

Thanks, but this just goes to show my point… and as noted, it’s all a matter of context!

Notes to answerer
Asker: In this case I am looking for the correct word and I don't need the legal explanation (since I'm a lawyer) but I thank you for your input regarding the other suggestions made here. Fellowship and friendly society, even though they are mentioned in wiki and in babylon are not "amutot" in the broad sense.

neutral  Lingopro: Good answer and an excellent explanation! Your answer seems right, and the reason I’m not agreeing is because non-profit organization could serve the asker, if he doesn’t need the exact legal definition, after all, as you said, it is the broader term.
