This is the name of an exam that was sat at a Chamber of Commerce as part of the final training to become a shipping agent.

I'm not sure if there's a better solution than the direct translation, something like 'Operation of sea-going vessels and maritime traffic' or '...and the maritime sector'.

Any ideas or thoughts would be much appreciated.

agree  Steffen Walter: ... although asker's suggestion could be combined with your answer: 'operation of sea-going vessels and maritime traffic/transport'. The former probably focuses on the technical side, the latter on the business/commercial aspects of shipping/transport.
