... that I'm prompted to contrib. even a y'r after orig. Q. - Ger. does like to verwissenschaftlichen, dsn't it - even to extent of legitimation. A repeated mental/transl. hurdle f. me is to keep sights on 'studies' etc. in Eng. for what's meant; and that 'Geistes*wissenschaften*' are... Humanities. Human sciences immed. calls medicine & other interfaces tween humans and technology to mind - w/Phil, incl. ans. @ Kilian below.
My other major gripe/alarm signal is re. 'pc'/ pressure of polit. correctness in trans. & service-rendering - absolutely w/ Andrew & Walden re. 'does it sound...Eng.?' - & *against* kid-gloves towards client, what a pity they lost heart re. orig. doubts. Our role as translators is surely not to accede to Emperor's Clothes, nor to flav. o'the Month ill-informed name-coining - that's no favour to clients.
End of gripe, thx, over&out. Except my own research that got me here - someone's a Kommunikationswissenschaftlerin, wot pray in E.?!?

I should have told you the whole story. I was doing too much at once and didn't think the whole process through before posing the question. And -- sorry Ramey -- I wasn't being coy. Just too rushed! In fact, apologies to one and all for any inconvenience, annoyance, wasted time, irritation, nettled nerves, etc. Back to my main task for the week: trying to yank together a technical training manual that sounds like it was written by a 12-year-old. sigh

This received 4 votes because "it is the official name of the institute". I wonder whether it would have been so wholeheartedly endorsed if the real question had been put in the first place, i.e. "Does this sound all right in English?"

and departments were always 'of' but nowadays seem to be 'for'. Could be that 'of' sounds somehow complacent while 'for' sounds proactive and dynamic.

Which university is it then? If Leuphana, then maybe Steffen's; if Ilmenau, then maybe mine...
