hausgeschichte
German to English
Marketing
Tourism & Travel
I don't know how to translate the term hausgeschichte.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks.

Selected
tales of former inhabitants
They don't need to be "first-hand"
Or "(life) stories of former inhabitants"
Example from links below:
"3.2 Second outing, Class 1: Stories of former inhabitants
The storyteller took the students to the graveyard and the foundations of a one-room school-house, two homes, and several outbuildings."
--------------------------------------------------
Note added at 19 hrs (2013-04-22 03:03:46 GMT)
--------------------------------------------------
Another example:
"One of August Wilson's shatteringly beautiful Pittsburgh Cycle plays, Joe Turner's Come and Gone follows the stories of inhabitants of a boarding house, from the cranky proprietor and his nurturing wife.."

first-hand accounts (of life...)
I wonder if this is what is meant ? I've been to local museums where you sit and listen to recorded material about a particular historical period/location, such as interviews with local people or their descendants etc.
Would this fit?

: I doubt whether the buildings were selected for reconstruction at this ‘museum village’ on the basis of whether their previous occupants were available as (living) tour guides or (deceased) raconteurs.

personal narratives
I would suggest narratives instead of accounts, although this is also good.

Horst Huber (X)
: I would think "narratives" is the word, except that they actually follow the story line of the buildings.

German term (edited):
Hausgeschichten von den früheren Bewohnern
the history of the buildings and their former occupants
I am posting this as a separate answer because I think that 'Haus-' needs to be included somewhere.
I strongly suspect that this is the Museumsdorf in question:
