Science - History
Spanish term or phrase: Abastecimiento
EL ABASTECIMIENTO A LAS TROPAS FRANCESAS EN EL PUERTO DE SANTA MARÍA (title of article)
Context: Early XIXth century occupation of El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz, Spain) by French troops
Author also uses "suministros" (supplies) in the abstract of the article, so it should be another word for "abastecimiento".

Asker: Thank you, patricia. I think this is the one: the provisioning of the troops

Asker: The context for "suministro": "De esta manera identificamos y explicamos el contexto y contenido de los documentos que la integran para hacerlos accesibles a los investigadores y al público en general al objeto de dar a conocer el papel desempeñado por la ciudad de El Puerto de Santa María en la labor de suministro a las tropas francesas"

agree  Denise Phelps: I was just about to post the same :-) Not that Edward's answer is wrong, but if the asker wants a synonym, this is it. http://books.google.es/books/about/Army_provisioning_logisti...

-> Sure, it wasn't hard, I was just a little faster, thanks Denise!

agree  Cinnamon Nolan: I was typing the same thing (provisions/provisioning). You're quick on the draw, Patricia. ;->

agree  Charles Davis: "Provisioning" is actually a better word to use than "supplies" in this context. Even if "suministro" were not used in the article, I would use "provisioning of troops" here. Not "provisions", though.

Supplies

Explanation:
I think you're right, just a synonym for "suministros".

I would not use a different word at all, I would stick with "supplies" for both.

Asker: Thanks, Edward. I would need a different English word, so as to distinguish between abastecimiento and suministros (as the auhor does)

Ahora que he podido buscar en diccionarios y mirar ejemplos en Google, veo que el término, aunque signifique "suministros", tiene un sentido más específico y que se se refiere a una época histórica de Inglaterra.
