Spanish term

metida fuertes de caña

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Ships, Sailing, Maritime
In a manual for a motor yacht:

Evite las aceleraciones bruscas y las metidas fuertes de caña en aguas poco profundas

The translation in the tm the client provided me with (which is full of extremely poor translations and in which I have zero confidence) is "luffing" but as far as I can tell luffing applies only to sailboats. This is not a sailboat.

sudden course changes / rudder impulses

I thinke here they're talking about the "caña del timón" and the need not to jerk at the rudder i.e to attempt sudden directional changes.
