The trouble with machine translation is that you can't ever get a feel for it. When I find a mistake in a translation I'm proofeading, I like to search the entire text for any repetitions, and correct them all in one go. That way, when I proofread the last page, it will already read considerably better than the first, and I can even start making more subtle changes rather than correcting the basic errors.
Since machines make much more random mistakes, it isn't necessarily that much better by the time you get to the end.
I did it once, like OP, never again. Or only if they'll pay my translation rate, then I'll simply translate it, possibly referring to the machine translation for terminology (although double checking that it's OK of course) ▲ Collapse
