Words are sometimes very poor exponents of such an event: but it happens now and then, on the other hand, that a plain intimation expresses too much, and suggests emotion and suffering which, in reality, have but little, if any, existence.

A peggiorare il triste evento fu il fatto che in quel periodo era fuori per via della scuola e, come lei stessa disse, non aveva avuto la possibilità di alleviare gli ultimi istanti di vita della sua cara mamma. Sachez qu'en rien je ne prétends prendre la place de votre thérapeute. Lui avez-vous parlé des rêves que vous me confiez? Si ce n'est pas le cas, je vous y engage. Par ailleurs, elle a dû vous dire qu'il est crucial que ce soit le rêveur lui-même qui fasse ses propres amplifications de ce que représentent, pour lui, les images issues de son inconscient. Toutefois, peut-être, qu'en dehors de votre travail thérapeutique, mes impressions à propos de vos rêves pourraient vous ouvrir de nouveaux chemins de réflextion.
Comme CG Jung, je pense que "Le rêve est une porte étroite, dissimulée dans ce que l'âme a de plus obscur et de plus intime; il s'ouvre sur notre nuit originelle cosmique..."
À propos de ceux que vous m'avez rapporté, le thème de la momie, évoqué par cette femme entourée de bandes de tissus cachant ses blessures, fait penser à l'Égypte antique. Il rappelle l'embaument d'un cor5ps en prévision de son voyage dans l'au-delà et de sa résurrection. Il me semble que c'est là le sujet central des rêves que vous m'avez confiés: la mort et la renaissance.
L'un de vos rêves me fait penser à celui dont Jung parle dans "Dialectique du Moi et de l'Inconscient". Il y décrit le rêve d'une de ses patientes: "Il (un géant qui ressemble à son père) la prit dans ses bras et la porta comme un petit enfant. Ce Père géant (comme Éole dieu du vent) souffla sur les épis d'un champ et la berça au-dessus des blés ondoyant sous sa brise."
Nous en reparlerons, peut-être samedi, avant ou après ma prochaine conférence. Vous me direz ce que représente "le chat" pour vous. Sa présence momifiée, que vous portez sur vos bras tendus, confirme que nous sommes bien dans la symbolique, égyptienne mais, encore une fois, c'est votre rêve et c'est bien vous qui en détenez la clé.

Non sto fingendo di prendere il posto della sua terapista. Le ha detto dei sogni che mi ha affidato? Se non lo ha fatto, l'assumerò. Inoltre, deve averle detto che è fondamentale che sia il sognatore stesso a fare le proprie amplificazioni di ciò che le immagini del suo inconscio rappresentano per lui. Tuttavia, forse, a parte il suo lavoro terapeutico, le mie impressioni sui suoi sogni potrebbero aprirle nuove strade a cui pensare.
Come Carl Gustav Jung, penso che "il sogno sia una porta stretta, nascosta in ciò che l'anima ha di più oscuro e intimo; si apre nella nostra notte cosmica originale..."
A proposito di quelli che mi ha raccontato, il tema della mummia, evocato da quella donna avvolta da strisce di stoffa che nascondono ferite, ci ricorda l'antico Egitto. Ricorda l'imbalsamazione di un corpo in previsione del suo viaggio nell'aldilà e della sua risurrezione.
Mi sembra che sia questo il tema centrale dei sogni che mi ha affidato: morte e rinascita.
Uno dei suoi sogni mi fa pensare a quello di cui parla Jung ne "L'io e l'inconscio". In esso lo psichiatra descrive il sogno di uno dei suoi pazienti: "lui (un gigante che assomiglia al padre) la prese tra le braccia e la portò come una bambina. Quel padre gigante (simile a Eolo, dio dei venti) soffiò sulle orecchie di un campo e la scosse sopra il mais che ondeggiava sotto la sua brezza".
Ne parleremo, magari sabato, prima o dopo la mia prossima conferenza. Mi dirà cosa significa per lei "il gatto". Il suo corpo mummificato che porta con le braccia tese conferma che siamo nel simbolismo egiziano, ma di nuovo, è il suo sogno ed è lei a detenerne la chiave.

Translation - English Were the gladiators vegetarian?
Plump, not very tall and respectful of the rules, this is the first portrait of the fighters that science has drawn from their bones. By analysing the components of their bones, scientists have found high levels of strontium (an element found in vegetable proteins provided by legumes, milk and cereals) and low levels of zinc (found in animal proteins).
The strontium content of the bones is double that of the normal population then living near Ephesus, where the human skeletons were found, meaning that the gladiators were almost vegetarian. The basic diet of simple carbohydrates, such as barley, legumes, beans, was carefully designed to survive in the arena. Eating lots of carbohydrates puts on a lot of weight and skin fat. A cushion of fat protects against cutting wounds, nerves and blood vessels in a fight. A skinny gladiator would have been like dead mean - and not fit for a good show. Superficial wounds are the most spectacular aspect of events. If I'm injured, but only in the fat layer, I can continue to fight. It doesn't hurt much and it looks great for the spectators.
