An aerial lift (US), also known as a cable car (UK, Europe), is a means of cable transport in which cabins, cars, gondolas or open chairs are hauled above the ground by means of one or more cables. Aerial lift systems are frequently employed in mountainous territory where roads are relatively difficult to build and use, and have seen extensive use in mining. Aerial lift systems are relatively easy to move, and have been used to cross rivers and ravines. In more recent times, the cost-effectiveness and flexibility of aerial lifts has seen an increase of gondola lift being integrated into urban public transport systems.

depends

Depends on the suspension system and trajectory of the “подъемник”.

Using the proper term for the lift would make saying something like “20 aerial lifts, complete with cabins” redundant, as ones that don’t have cabins (like chairlifts) have their own names. So, I’d find the proper term for the entire system and just use that. Personally, I use “cable car” in speech for everything and am not sure why it's listed as a British variant. Aerial lift/tramway work well for a travel brochure. As for Gondola lifts, this sounds like it may be a European thing. I’ve never actually heard it in speech, although it may very well be what people in the industry use. Basically, it depends on your audience and the degree to which the translation needs to be localized.

Oops, I meant "CAN make saying somethig like..." redundant. Like if cabins are already implied in the term you choose.
