varvas

Non-PRO Swedish to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Hi! What does "varvas" translate into in this specific context? Can you confirm that "praktikfall" means "practical case/example"? Thanks in advance.

Under en fullspäckad dag varvas expertföreläsningar med inspirerande praktikfall.

Change log

Jan 17, 2017 19:10: Agneta Pallinder changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): Daniel Löfström, Christopher Schröder, Agneta Pallinder

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Barbara Østergaard (asker) Jan 18, 2017:
Thanks very much. It's very helpful!
Cristofer Remar Jan 17, 2017:
for the word "varvas" I would suggest "are mixed with" or "are alternated with" because what they are trying to get across is that mix or alternation between two things: "expert lectures" (expertföreläsningar) and, as I would suggest, "case studies" (praktikfall).

Please reply if you have any further concerns!

..."lectures by experts alternate with inspirational cases from actual practice"... or something like that.
Peer comment(s):

agree Deane Goltermann : I'll agree with your if you agree with mine! ;-) 'alternating with' or 'interspersed with'... Well... your view of varva is too narrow... esp. in this context.

With deep regret I can't agree - intersperse "scatter among or between other things; place here and there" but varva is first one, then the other - alternate :)!.

Can be many things, this is one, plus many of its synonyms -- intermix, mix, mingle -- combined ...
