English term

use prohibited of other ones (illegible)

English Science Materials (Plastics, Ceramics, etc.) SDS
Hello,

I just received an SDS to translate, this doc file was converted from a pdf (original pdf is not available).
There are 2 illegible parts and I would like to ask for your help to figure out the original meaning lost in the
conversion process.
Those familiar with safety data sheets may figure it out instinctively:
Data in the 1st section:

1. Section: Chemical product & Company Identification
- Recommended use of the product:
- Restriction on the use: -
- ***Use prohibited of other ones***: -
- Manufacture information: [name]

What do you think it referred to originally? The field after this expression is empty so no more context.

Thanks!
U

other prohibited uses

As I'm sure you're aware, János, your problem here is not simply that the conversion from pdf to doc has mangled the text through legibility problems; it is pretty clear that the original is non-native. So even where the pdf text has gone into the doc text without being altered, it is not correct. Here, for example, "Restriction on the use" should obviously be "Restrictions on use" and "Manufacture information" should almost certainly be "Manufacturer information", since it is asking for a name.

In the case of "use prohibited of other ones", that is presumably what the pdf said, but it doesn't make sense; it's not English. Since this is a heading after which some information could have been entered (though it hasn't been in this case), I presume that it doesn't mean "other uses prohibited" (i.e. other uses are prohibited), but "other prohibited uses", so any other prohibited uses of the product are to be entered here. This follows quite logically from "restrictions on use".

Note from asker:
Thank you for your suggestion. Yes, you are right, it was probably written by a non-native.

agree Ildiko Santana : Yes, that would explain the funky phrase in the previous question, ''it is possible to blocking'' ;) Here it should simply state identified uses ... and uses advised against e.g. http://www.synopticshealth.com/assets/doc/ProReveal-SDS.pdf

Thanks, Ildiko :) Yes, I think the problems here arise more from a defective original than from the file conversion process.
Something went wrong...
