NON, c'est plus que ça, il faut résister au vent, au soleil, etc. Il y aurait eu un autre mot anglais si ça avait été simplement étanche à l'eau !
disagree Tom Bishop : étanche is the standard term and is not exclusive to water. See http://www.proz.com/kudoz/1151909 posted today where the (French) source text refers to étanchéité à l'air.

Tough one

Resistant aux intemperies is technically correct, but so is Gilles: The French generally just say "Etanche".
Hard to imagine that sun, sand and wind will come through a cable hole. I think they are mainly refering to water.

agree Tom Bishop : Definitely "étanche" as Gilles says (but doesn't post!). I encounter it all the time and it can refer to preventing the passage of pretty much anything, not just water.
