Dear Yuliana,
In reaction to the above mentioned call, I wish to express my readiness to help out. I am a professional translator French/English/Dutch. Although my mothertongye is Dutch I am a near native in English and live in the French speaking part of Belgium (have a university degree in French/English translation).
I am only explaining all this because I am more than willing to help these poor people, but also want you to know that I am not a native in the required languages.

Apparently the period was getting in the way, at least for your default email application. I have removed it.

I have just heard that the response has been very strong, with over 80 translators expressing their willingness to be involved just today.

There are quite a few initiatives out there. At least one group has been formed with the goal of coordinating the various efforts. If things begin to take shape, and centralize somewhere, we'll give notice...
In the meantime, Translators Without Borders is an established group that appears to have already become engaged in the support efforts in Haiti.

Thank you for your positive response. I was merely looking at it in terms of co-ordination (not an easy task by any means). All the initiatives have merit as Haiti's situation is very grim indeed.

I too tried to register with TSF earlier, and was asked to try again later. But, given Henry's earlier message ("Please hold off" on 19 January), it would seem that they currently have all the translators they can cope with. Meanwhile, a another posting from Rubric, who are looking for volunteer translators for TSF - so perhaps they still have a gap...
