call termination
Explanation:
as opposed to call origination

Call Termination, also known as voice termination, refers to the handing off or routing of calls from one telephone company, also known as a carrier or provider, to another telephone company.

Two Italian definition of interconnessione inversa are:

- i costi che gli operatori telefonici pagano quando un loro cliente chiama l'abbonato di un altro gestore

http://www.tgfin.mediaset.it/tgfin/ultimissima.shtml?nRC_14....

- prezzi di terminazione delle chiamate originate dai numeri della rete di Telecom e destinate ai numeri delle reti dei concorrenti

http://www.agcm.it/agcm_ita/COSTAMPA/COSTAMPA.NSF/0af75e5319...

There are a few instances of "inverse/reverse interconnection" but these all seem to appear on Italian websites (except Tiscali which is obviously a direct translation from the Italian website anyway)

Hi Pauley - this is where it gets confusing. My answer above comes directly from the Italian definition of the phrase but I'm fairly sure there's a standard EN way of saying this. I used to have an excellent FR>EN telephony glossary which may come in useful as a lot of the French terms are similar to the Italian but I can't seem to find it ...

Interconnection is a completely valid telephony term - there are usually two types of interconnection: direct and indirect

In fact I wonder if this is just another way of saying indirect interconnection ...

"Reverse interconnection relates to the fees received by Other Licensed Operators for terminating calls originated by Telecom Italia customers. In practice, Telecom Italia pays OLOs a share of the revenues from telephone traffic for calls originated by public switched network subscribers to numbers assigned to fixed networks managed by other operators."

Notes to answerer
Asker: thanks for the heard work, ivana. it looks like you're right about the inadequacy of "inverse" or "reverse" interconnection. how, then, would you translate "interconnessione diretta o inversa"?
