embarking vehicles Explanation: the source text is another example of obscurantist bs, IMO. "gommato" = vehicles with rubber tyres. "mezzo di trasporto pubblico su gomma" = bus "struttura ricettiva" = hotel Etc. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 24 mins (2010-03-07 13:18:06 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- i.e. "a means for embarking vehicles autonomously that does not require external mechanical means. To put it really simply: "ferries with their own vehicle loading ramps". In the end, stripping away all the BS, that might be the best translation. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 25 mins (2010-03-07 13:18:59 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- grrrrr |

road vehicles loading Explanation: ferry not for loading rail carriages http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linkspan Ferry boats often dock at specialized facilities designed to position the boat for loading and unloading, called a ferry slip. If the ferry transports road vehicles or railway carriages there will usually be an adjustable ramp called an apron that is part of the slip. In other cases, the apron ramp will be a part of the ferry itself, acting as a wave guard when elevated and lowered to meet a fixed ramp at the terminus — a road segment that extends partially underwater. |
