significa questo, che i germi si muovono verso le aree malate (attirati dalla maggiore acidità, ovvero dal pH più basso, uindi è in realta un chemiotropismo) e, a causa del loro stesso metabolismo, ne aumentano ulteriormente l'acidità
aumentando così i segnali che attirano altri microbi... facendo progressivamente peggiorare le condizioni dei tessuti interessati

poiché però come ti dicevo è un tropismo di tipo chimico (pH più basso signifca maggiore conentrazione di ioni H+)

potrebbe anche essere corretto tradurlo come
