English term

2 Leg Lift

English to German Tech/Engineering Engineering (general) Safety Manual - Rigging / Hitches for Heavy Loads - Specific Examples
Vertical Hitch ( up to 2.5 tons) = Scheitelhaken? / Vertikalhaken? (No Google results)
Choker Hitch (up to 5 tons) = Choker-Haken? (Google results support this translation but maybe there is a set expression)
Basket Hitch (up to 2.5 tons) = Tellerknoten? (http://www.google.com/patents/EP0581054A1?cl=de)

2 LEG LIFT (up to 30 tons) = 2-Schenkel-Zug? / 2-schenkliger Zug? / zweischenkliger Zug (No Google results, is there a set expression?)

I can't even find these hitch knots in the English or German Wikipedia. Maybe there are different names for the same hitch knots?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_hitch_knots
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_von_Knoten#Die_sortierbar...

I am not sure if someone can help with such a specific topic but I really appreciate any help.

Safety Manual for Engineering Company, No vessels Thanks David. You are right. I did not consider the intention to build a glossary and just caught up on the rules.

It is a safety manual for an engineering company. There is not more context than provided above. These are examples for good rigging of heavy loads with slings and shackles. The text is not related to automotive or vessels at all.

Hi Markus, and a warm welcome to ProZ - I hope you find it useful.

When we first started, very few of us read the rules first... They actually discourage posting more than one term at a time, as the glossaries depend on single entries (you made three).

It does take a little more time, it's true, but at the end of the day, you will (1) benefit by getting specific answers to specific questions, (2) thus probably get a better selection of answers and (3) avoid being told (rather rudely in some cases, I have to confess) that "the rules say...".

Having said that, your context is a little thin. What is the document being translated and its purpose? Is this part of a list? These details could be helpful.

Test Ich denke mehr an Anschlagmittel
Markus Seebauer (asker) Aug 14, 2013:
Vielen Dank für die schnelle Antwort. Es geht nicht um Kfz sondern allgemein um das Heben schwerer Lasten in einem industriellen Umfeld.

Ich hoffe, der Rest funktioniert problemlos:

• Multi-leg slings.
With slings having more than two legs and a rigid load, it is possible for some of the legs to take practically the full load while the others merely balance it. There is no way of knowing that each leg is carrying its fair share of the load.
As a result, when lifting rigid objects with three- or four-leg bridle slings, make sure that at least two of the legs alone can support the total load. In other words, consider multi-leg slings used on a rigid load as having only two legs.
:
For instance, a two-leg sling used to lift 1000 pounds will have a 500-pound load on each leg at a sling angle of 90°. The load on each leg will go up as the angle goes down. At 30° the load will be 1000 pounds on each leg! See Figure 9.
:
Bridle Hitch (Figs 11, 13.). Two, three or four single hitches can be used together to form a bridle hitch for hoisting an object with the necessary lifting lugs or attachments.
:
With a two-leg bridal hitch, a 60-degree angle is formed when the distance between the attachment points on the load equals the length of the sling leg
:
Bridle Hitches (2-Leg) (Figure 29)
The formula for the WLL of a two-leg bridal hitch is:
WLL (of two-leg hitch) = WLL (of single vertical hitch) x H/L x
:
To be safe, use the formula for a two-leg bridle hitch under such circumstances.

Bridle Hitches (2, 3, and 4 leg) — Measure the length of the sling legs (L) and measure the head room between the hook and the load (H).
WLL = WLL (of single vertical hitch) x H/L x 2 for a two-leg hitch
