"Overall, two thirds of Australian agricultural lands are found to be degraded.
The removal of native vegetation and unsustainable farm management practices are considered causes of degradation in the production area.
New techniques have been adapted, such as minimum/no tillage farming, reduced application of pesticides, as well as clearance and retention legislation to slow down land conversions, but soil is still lost at a higher rate than it is formed."

http://www.australiancollaboration.com.au/pdf/FactSheets/Lan...
http://www.environment.gov.au/system/files/resources/c1ed12d...
das folgende Zitat: "In agricultural landscapes, the retention of at least 30–35% of native vegetation has a high likelihood of maintaining diversity."
Die zwei folgenden Webreferenzen geben etwas "offiziellen" Hintergrund.

Nochmal herzlichen Dank!
http://vro.depi.vic.gov.au/dpi/vro/vrosite.nsf/pages/primary...
http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/[email protected]/Lookup/4630.0main fe...
http://archive.agric.wa.gov.au/objtwr/imported_assets/conten...
Ich bin jetzt nur etwas verwirrt, weil es in dem von Dir als erstes zitierten Dokument heißt (auch auf S. 5)"'Laser grading of irrigation land, minimum tillage, reduced use of pesticides and trash retention are some of the methodological changes that have ccurred." - Was bitteschön ist denn "trash retention"?
