For over fifty years from the time of their discovery, the remains of Roman oil-presses of the torcular type were repeatedly asserted to be megaliths, but their real nature has now become generally recognized. Similarly, traces of cistvaens and alignments reported from Tripolitana as being of great age are all either doubtful, or certainly late.
