French term or phrase: adopté en commission
Hello. This is from a CIOL DipTrans past paper.
It's part of a sub-heading for a newspaper article, which reads:

'Un projet de loi adopté en commission à l’Assemblée veut empêcher les plaintes contre certains « bruits et effluves » du terroir.'

Later in the article, it's written that the projet de loi has been, 'adoptée par la commission des affaires culturelles de l’Assemblée nationale,' if that helps at all.

Thank you.

Having looked in much detail into the process of bill passing in France, I think 'agreed in committee' is the closest literal translation for the context. As in the UK, the NA committees' role seems to be one of reviewing and amending as necessary a proposed bill, then sending a revised (agreed upon) version to the next stage. Thanks for everyone's feedback. Very much appreciated.

passed in the committee

Explanation:
In a legislative context, "adopté" often means "passed". For example, in the US, people would say, "A bill has been passed in the Senate."
"En commission" could mean committee, but it could also mean "hearing", as in "Assembly Hearing."

agree  Mpoma: Not "hearing". That's a judicial context (although might be a possibility in a specifically US context). Whereas elected chambers everywhere spawn enormous numbers of committees.
