I'm not sure if this is the best category to post this but couldn't find anything more appropriate.
From a hospital authorisation of a clinical trial. It is simply a job title which is followed by the individual's signature. P.O. in this context is 'posizione organizzativa' (http://www.ospedalecardarelli.it/dipartimenti/dip/126953/126... I found a very literal translation of this as 'organisational position'. on ProZ which I don't intend to use. 'Convenzioni' probably refers to agreements and I tend to think 'protocollo' in this context is 'register' (Registro su cui vengono annotati gli atti concernanti gli attività di enti pubblici - Zingarelli, 2002) but am not quite sure how best to render this job title in English.
Any suggestions would be very welcome. Job titles are often something of a headache to translate!

P.O. indeed stands for POSIZIONE ORGANIZZATIVA. I have written confirmation from a Comune that employs such nomenclature. A "P.O. next to a name" would identify the person in charge of all matters inherent to that office, coincidentally it could be referred to as a Principal Officer.
As such, a proposed translation of "responsabile della P.O. protocollo e convenzioni" could be "Chief Registry and Agreements Clerk" or, more literally, "Head of Protocols and Agreements".
