German term

Sonderdepot

German to English Medical Medical: Health Care Transfusion
This should be a cinch but somehow isn't. It comes from a list of aspects of maintaining and improving quality and transparency in hospitals. On a page relating to "Transfusionsmedizin" one aspect is given as:

"Chargendokumentation und Rückverfolgbarkeit, Umgang mit **Sonderdepots**"

My first thought was "blood bank" but that is simply "Blutbank" in German surely. "Sonderdepot" refers I suppose, to a blood transfusion centre in the hospital, but is it a special blood transfusion centre? What actually is a "Sonderdepot" compared to a plain "Depot" anyway? Are special batches kept there? How should I render **Sonderdepot** in English?
As usual, all suggestions, recommendations, comments much appreciated.

The Blood Safety and Quality (amendment) Regulations 2006/2013 further amend the BSQR 2005 (SI 2005/50) ("the principal regulations") to make a number of changes to the provisions governing the operation of blood establishments (establishments which collect, process and test human blood and blood components) and hospital blood banks (hospital units which store, distribute, and perform compatibility tests on, blood and blood components for use in hospitals). These changes relate specifically to traceability requirements and notification of adverse reactions and events and introduce Community standards and specifications relating to a quality system for blood establishments.

neutral philgoddard : You haven't explained how you arrive at this, and it's Depots in the plural.

Well, I was interpreting "depot" as a facility/storage unit, rather than "deposits"

2 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I decided to opt for "special blood unit" which is a sort of compromise and if I could have divided the points, I would have. Big thanks to both of you for confirming I was on the right lines. There doesn't seem to be a common term in English perhaps they dont exist in English hospitals-anyway, I think this term will convey the meaning as near as the German"

special deposit

A literal translation is fine, and I don't think the exact meaning is your problem. It could mean advance deposits, for example where a patient with a rare blood group deposits their own blood before surgery, or deposits held for major incidents.

Or you could say stocks or holdings.
