Note finale:
so in this context it is contrasting theoretical with applied studies.

But I can't think of a correct way of putting it.

Average mark in theoretical studies?

as Nikki has said this comes down to Theory and Practical distinctions (theoretical and applied) so I would just say

(Overall) Average mark: Theory

(Overall) Average mark: Practical

I've left "overall" in brackets as it is sometimes included but not strictly necessary

I'm assuming this is for UK English? Otherwise go with Timothy for US English "grade-point average"

neutral  Nikki Scott-Despaigne: I prefer theory / practical. It would be nice if theory/practice and theoretical/practical went together, but I reckon they are not used in those nice-sounding pairs, so the good ol' theory/practical is better.
