Johnson Controls asked Stryver to produce two welding fixtures, one for the metal frame of the seat back and one for the metal frame of the lower portion of the seat. These frames are highly complex because the seats themselves are so complex, having many of the "extras" previously found only in passenger car seats. The frames, therefore, must include additional features such as the attachment points for all the internal mechanisms. The frame for the seat back alone consists of 17 separate parts. The complexity of the seat frames translates into complexity in the welding fixtures because of the manufacturing process that Johnson Controls prefers to use. Rather than joining some parts into subassemblies and then bringing the subassemblies together into a final assembly, Johnson Controls prefers to put all the parts together at once. This approach reduces costs because instead of multiple operations with multiple fixtures, multiple robot pairs, and an operator for each station, there is only one fixture, one set of robots, and one operator. That one fixture becomes very complicated, however. In the case of the seat back frame, for instance, the fixture must hold all of the 17 parts in position while they are welded together.
Stryver faced several additional challenges in the design of these fixtures. Some were related to the fact that Ford had decided to attach the pulley for the seat belt to the seat itself rather than on the pillar behind the front door. From its anchor point on the floor, the seat belt comes up the rear of the seat and then goes over the top of occupant's shoulder. The automaker did this to improve access to the foldout seats in back, but doing so added certain requirements to frame since it is now part of the safety restraint system. In previous trucks that had the seat belt pulley mounted on the body pillar, the restraint system relied on the stability of the pillar, one of the reinforcements for the roll cage. In the new truck, the seat frame has to provide that stability. Also, in an accident, the pivot point made by the pulley at the top of the new seat will tend to pull the seat down toward the floor. To counter that, the frame includes five additional irregularly shaped metal stampings. Their odd shapes make them difficult to fixture. Also, the fact that the frame is now a safety component complicates the fixture even further by requiring very tight dimensional controls and more checks than normal. For example, Stryver was asked to incorporate sensors to ensure that parts are in position, clamps are closed, and so on.
One additional challenge came from the unique attachment of the headrest assembly to the back of the seat. Normally the headrest is mounted on rods that fit into mating holes within the frame. On this seat, there was an elaborate stamping in the seat back containing holes with flanges. The head rest rods fit into these holes. The stamping needed to be positioned very accurately so that its holes would line up with the rods, but the stamping didn't have easily located features that would assist in the positioning. Also, this stamping was quite large. Just getting into place within the fixture required jockeying it around other parts and moving the tooling out of the way. That presented Stryver with the challenge of sliding the tooling back into the precise position for the welding operation once the stamping was in place.

Intel capped off a gloomy year with a 39 per cent plunge in fourth-quarter profits as its fierce price war with smaller rival AMD continued to bite.
Last week AMD gave warning that figures for its latest quarter would fail to match analysts' expectations as the cost of silicon continues to slide. Industry figures suggest the chip market dipped to about $33 billion last year, from $35 billion in 2005, despite manufacturers selling around 10 percent more units. Prices are expected to fall further in 2007.
Intel has responded by cutting jobs and developing new, more powerful, processors. But last night the world's largest microchip manufacturer said that net income for the fourth quarter was $1.5 billion, or 26 cents per share, compared with $2.45 billion, or 40 cents per share, in the same period a year ago. Revenue for the quarter was $9.7 billion, down 5 per cent from $10.2 billion.
Excluding one-off charges, Intel said that it earned $1.7 billion, or 30 cents per share, beating analyst estimates of 25 cents per share.
Intel released a record 40 new chips last year. However, it said that investment in new products had hit gross margins in the fourth quarter, which narrowed to 49.6 per cent, down from 61.8 per cent a year earlier. Shares in the group fell about 4 per cent in New York on fears that margins will take another hit this year.
Writedowns in Intel's flash memory division, start-up charges for its new NAND flash unit, and charges linked to a move to a new manufacturing process also hit the fourth-quarter figures.
Last year the company embarked on a massive restructuring plan designed to strip out $3 billion a year in costs by 2008 by cutting 10,500 jobs, or 10 per cent of the workforce.
According to Current Analysis, the researchers, Intel accounted for about 68 per cent of the US retail market in December, compared with AMD's 32 per cent share.
Intel kicks off a busy week for earnings in the technology sector. Apple and IBM will report later this week.

Existen diversos elementos de configuración y administración en una aplicación Web de ASP.Net. Este tipo de aplicaciones se compone de un conjunto de ficheros almacenados en una carpeta dentro del servidor Web.
Para ejecutar una aplicación Web de ASP.Net se necesita que el servidor Web sea compatible con ASP.Net. En este caso se va a utilizar IIS 5.0 (Internet Information Server) como servidor Web. El IIS es un componente de Windows incluido en las versiones profesionales de Windows 2000 y XP. Si no se tiene este componente, se debe proceder a su instalación mediante el icono de 'Agregar o quitar programas' en el panel de control y seleccionando 'Agregar o quitar componentes de Windows' en donde aparecerá el IIS para su instalación. El acceso al IIS se realiza mediante el icono de 'Servicios de Internet Information Server' situado en las 'Herramientas administrativas' dentro del panel de control.
El servidor Web IIS permite administrar las aplicaciones Web y comunicarse con los navegadores cliente mediante protocolo http (protocolo de transferencia de hipertexto). El IIS también ofrece otros servicios de protocolo, como transferencia de archivos (FTP), servicio de correo electrónico (SMTP) y servicio de noticias (NNTP).
Con el clásico ASP 3.0 era suficiente con tener el IIS instalado en el servidor Web, ya que era el IIS el que directamente interpretaba el código ASP y enviaba la respuesta al cliente. Sin embargo, en ASP.Net se necesita que el servidor Web tenga instalado .Net Framework para poder procesar código de ASP.Net, como ocurre con cualquier otra aplicación de .Net. Es importante decir que los navegadores cliente que accedan a la aplicación Web no necesitan tener instalado IIS ni tampoco .Net Framework ya que es el servidor Web el que tiene que saber interpretar el código de ASP.Net.
Cuando se solicita una página de tipo .aspx (página de ASP.Net) el servidor Web de IIS envía la solicitud a .Net Framework que es quien realmente procesa la petición de la página. De esta forma, las aplicaciones Web de ASP.Net se benefician de todas la ventajas de ejecución de código en .Net Framework, ya que el código es compilado y ejecutado por .Net Framework y devuelto al IIS para que éste a su vez lo envíe al cliente.
Con ASP.Net también es posible tener código de ASP 3.0 dentro de páginas de ASP.Net, con la ventaja de que el código de ASP 3.0 también se compila junto con el código de ASP.Net aumentando el rendimiento del servidor Web.
A continuación, se muestra un ejemplo de los distintos ficheros que pueden existir en una aplicación Web de ASP.Net.

Una vez creada la aplicación, el código de servidor se ensambla en un fichero .dll situado en la carpeta Bin de la aplicación Web. Por tanto, una vez realizada la compilación, los ficheros de código (.vb ó .cs) ya no son necesarios para la ejecución de la aplicación ya que están ensamblados en la dll y es aconsejable quitarlos del servidor para que no se pueda acceder desde el exterior a su contenido.
En resumen, para que funcione una aplicación Web de ASP.Net se debe tener en el Servidor Web lo siguiente:
- Tener instalado IIS 5.0 ó superior en el servidor Web y configurar un directorio virtual asociado a la aplicación Web.
- Tener instalado en el servidor Web .Net Framework.
- Los archivos .aspx correspondientes a las páginas Web.
- Un archivo de ensamblado (DLL) situado en la carpeta Bin de la aplicación Web, que contiene el código de servidor que necesitan las páginas aspx.
- Un archivo llamado Global.asax que sirve para el control general de la aplicación durante su ejecución.
- Un archivo llamado Web.config donde se establece la configuración de la aplicación. Aunque este fichero es opcional se necesita cuando se quieren establecer parámetros de configuración que no sean los de por defecto.
- De manera adicional también puede aparecer en la carpeta Web otro tipo de archivos como:
- Archivos .ascx (controles personalizados de usuario de ASP.Net)
- Archivos .asmx (servicios Web XML de ASP.Net).
- Páginas .htm ó .html (páginas Web estáticas)
- Páginas .asp (páginas activas de servidor)
- Archivos .css (hojas de estilo CSS, Cascade Style Sheet).
- Documentos, imágenes, etc...
Translation - English Configuration of an ASP.NET Application
There are different configuring and administration elements in an ASP.NET Web application. These types of applications are based on a set of files stored in a folder within the Web server.
In order to run an ASP.NET Web application it is required that the Web server is compatible with ASP.NET. In this example, IIS 5.0 (Internet Information Server) is going to be used as the Web server. The IIS is a Windows component included in Windows 2000 and Windows XP professional versions. If this component is not available, you need to proceed to its installation by using the icon ‘Add/remove programs’ within the control panel and selecting ‘Add/remove Windows components’ in where the IIS will appear for it to be installed. Access to the IIS is done through the ‘Internet Information Server Services’ icon located in the ‘Administrative Tools’ within the control panel.
The IIS Web server allows you to manage the Web applications and to communicate with client browsers through http (hyperText transfer protocol). The IIS also offers other protocol services, such as file transfer protocol (FTP), simple email transfer protocol (SMTP) and service network news transfer protocol (NNTP).
With the traditional ASP 3.0 it was enough to have installed IIS in the Web server, as the ASP code was interpreted directly by IIS itself and it sent the reply to the client. However, with ASP.NET it needs for the Web server to have installed .NET Framework to be able to run the ASP.Net code. This is a requirement for any .Net application. It is important to mention that client browsers accessing the Web application do not need to have installed IIS neither .Net Framework as it is the Web server which has to know how to interpret the ASP.Net code.
When an .aspx (ASP.Net page) page type is requested the IIS Web server sends the request to .Net Framework that is who really processes the page request. This way, ASP.Net Web applications benefit from all the advantages of runtime code in .Net Framework, as the code is compiled and run by .Net Framework and it is returned to IIS for it to send it to the client.
It is also possible with ASP.Net to include ASP 3.0 code within ASP.Net pages, with the advantage that the ASP 3.0 code is compiled together with the ASP.Net code increasing the performance of the Web server.
Once the application is created, the server code is assembled in a .dll file located in the Bin folder of the Web application. Therefore, once the compilation is done, the files with the extensions (.vb or .cs) are not longer needed to run the application as they are assembled in the .dll and it is advisable to remove them from the server to avoid access to their content from the outside.
In summary, for an ASP.Net Web application to work the Web server must have the following:
- To have installed IIS 5.0 or higher in the Web server and to configure a virtual directory asociated to the Web application.
- To have installed .Net Framework in the Web server.
- The .aspx files corresponding to the web pages.
- An assembled (DLL) file located in the Bin folder of the Web application that contains the server code required by the .aspx pages.
- A file called Global.asax that is used to manage the application during runtime.
- A file called Web.config where the application configuration settings are established. Although, this is an optional file it is required when there is a need to set up parameters different from the default ones.
- Additionally, it can also be included other files in the Web folder such as:
- .ascx files (ASP.Net user’s controls)
- .asmx files (ASP.Net XML Web services)
- .htm or .html pages (static Web pages)
- .asp pages (server dynamic pages)
- .css files (Cascade Style Sheet(CSS))
- documents, images, etc…
