Jatuh atau kejatuhan benda merupakan potensi bahaya bagi seseorang yang bekerja pada ketinggian. Seberapa besar akibatnya ?, tergantung dari seberapa berat badan pekerja tersebut dan seberapa tinggi jarak jatuhnya. Oleh karena itu seorang Teknisi Akses Tali, perlu memahami hukum alam ini, agar mampu melakukan upaya-upaya keselamatan sehingga dapat terhindar dari akibat yang fatal seandainya terjatuh dan sistim penahan jatuh (fall arrester) bekerja.
Akibat jatuh dapat berupa pengalaman yang tidak menyenangkan bahkan traumatis, sakit, cidera, cacat sampai meninggal dunia. Sedangkan bagi pemberi kerja (perusahaan) akibat kece lakaan tersebut dapat berupa kehilangan waktu kerja, kerusakan peralatan, kehilangan tenaga kerja terlatih, kerugian finansial, berurusan dengan pihak ber wajib, sampai hilangnya reputasi yang dapat berlan jut pada pailit.
