Russian to English: Russian archaeological text Detailed field: Archaeology
Translation - English Lyubor Niderle, author of (Handbook of Slavic Antiquities), has aptly remarked that more is known about Slavs in death than in life. It is easy to see why. Funereal monuments, whether tumuli or graves in the town cemetery, present complexes intact and pristine from the moment of burial, and the archaeologist may reconstruct every detail of the funeral rites conducted there in antiquity. This is not the case with dwellings. Even in the best of circumstances, only the lower part of the framework remains, and only individual details of the interior furnishings. The reconstruction of the interior of a dwelling of Ancient Rus is therefore a sum with multiple unknowns.
