المقدمة :
احتلت المدينة العربية مكانة مهمة في تأريخ الامة وحضارتها ، ذلك كونها من ابرز المنجزات الحضارية للعقل العربي في مجال الهندسة والبناء ، فبقدرته شيدت البصرة ، والكوفة ، والقيروان ، وواسط وغيرها، الا ان بغداد فاقت الجميع شهرة ومجداً وعزاً منذ تأسيسها سنة 145هـ .
فبغداد تعتبر بحق رائعة من روائع الفكر العربي اصالة وأبداعاً ، ارتبطت شهرتها ، وعظمتها ، بباني عزها ومجدها الخليفة عبد الله بن محمد المنصور ، 136هـ -158هـ ، وظهورها عاصمة للدولة العربية في العصر العباسي ، فشغلت منذ ذلك التأريخ وألى الأن افكار الناس ، فحظيت بأهتمام وعناية المؤرخين والجغرافيين والأدباء والشعراء والأثاريين ، مالم تحظ به مدينة سواها ، فقد عنى الباحثون من عرب واجانب قديماً وحديثاً بوصفها ، والكتابة عن خططها ومعالمها وما بقى من آثارها ، يقول الجاحظ " رأيت المدن العظام بالشام والروم وغيرها ، فلم أر مدينة قط ، ارفع سمكاً ، ولا اجود استدارة ، ولا اوسع ابواباً ، ولا اجود فصلاً من مدينة ابي جعفر ، كأنما صبت في قالب ، وكأنما افرغت أفراغاً "(1)
ان مدينة بغداد مدينة المنصور المدورة ، التي يقول عنها اليعقوبي " انها المدينة العظمى التي ليس لها نظير في مشارق الارض ومغاربها ،(2) لازالت بحاجة الى مزيد من البحث والتقصي لكشف اسرار مجدها وعظمتها وزهوها عبر الزمن وهذه الدراسة تسلط الضوء على بغداد فتتناول عراقية اسمها ، وأختيارها وتخطيطها ومراحل بنائها لتكون حاضرة للدولة العربية " وأم الدنيا وسيدة البلاد " (3).
عراقية اسم بغداد وعروبته :
تؤكد المصادر والوثائق التأريخية وماكشفته التنقيبات الاثارية ، ان بغداد اسم عراقي قديم ، والادلة على قدم عراقيته وعروبته ، وأرتباطه بالعراقيين دون سواهم كثيرة ، يأتي في مقدمتها :-
1- ما ذكره البلاذري عنها حين قال " وكانت بغداد قديمة فصرها امير المؤمنين .. ،(4) .
2- ما قاله اليعقوبي " ولم تكن بغداد مدينة في الايام المتقدمة اعني ايام الأكاسرة والاعاجم وأنما كانت قرية من قرى طسوح بادويا ...(5) اي ان القرية التي حملت اسم بغداد كانت معروفة بهذا الاسم قبل احتلال الفرس للعراق .
3- مارواه الهمداني عن قدم اسمها وشهرتها ومكانتها التجارية في العالم انذاك فقال " وكانت بغداد قديمة فمصرها ابو جعفر المنصور (6) وكانت بغداد سوقاً يقصدها تجار الصين بتجارتهم فيربحون الربح الواسع (7) ، هذا اذا علمنا قدم العلاقات والصلات التجارية بين وادي الرافدين وبين الصين ادركنا اهمية هذا النص ودلالاته ، فضلاً عن ان بغداد وسوقها ورد ذكره في حروب التحرير العربية فيذكر الطبري في احداث سنة 12 هـ ان خالد بن الوليد " أغار على سوق بغداد ... وأنه وجه المثنى فأغار على سوق فيها جمع لقضاعة وبكر ."(8)
4- ماذكره الطبري وأبن الجوزي والعيني حين قالوا " وكانت بغداد مزروعة للبغداديين يقال لها المباركة وكانت لستين نفساً من البغداديين فعوضهم المنصور عنها عوضاً أرضاهم " (9)
5- مارواه الخطيب البغدادي عن طريق الشيخ ابي بكر الذي قال " والمحفوظ ان هذا الاسم – بغداد كان يعرف به الموضح قديماً .. ، (10) .
6- ماذكره ابن رستة في خبر بغداد وصفتها فقال " بغداد اسم موضع كانت في تلك البقعة ... في الدهر القديم وهي ارض بابل ..(11) اي ان الاسم معروف منذ زمن البابليين .
7- ما قاله المستشرقون (12) امثاله جاك ريسلر الذي قال " وكانت بغداد مدينة قديمة بابلية على الشاطئ الغربي من نهر دجلة ، في حين يقول اوليري " أن بغداد مدينة عريقة في القدم ، كانت تعرف زمن البابليين ببغداده .
8- ماكشفته التنقيبات الاثرية ، التي يقول عنها لسترانج " ويستدل من التنقيبات الاثرية التي قام بها، السرهنري رولنسون في سنة 1848 في اثناء انخفاظ الماء في فصل الجفاف اكثر من مستواه العادي ان هذا المكان كان موقعاً لمدينة واغلة في القدم بدليل الواجهة الواسعة المشيدة من الأجر البابلي والتي لازالت تحاذي ضفة دجلة الغربية عند بغداد ، وكل قطعة من الاجر مختومة بأسم نبوخذنصر والقابه ، وقد وجد منذ ذلك الوقت ايضاً اسم قريب الشبه ببغداد في الكشوف الجغرافية الاشورية من عهد سردنابالس ولعله يشير الى المدينة التي كانت موجودة حينذاك في الموضع الذي اصبح فيما بعد عاصمة الخلفاء "(13) .
9- ان اسم بغداد ورد صريحاً في الالواح المكتشفة حديثاً والتي يعود تأريخها الى عصور موغلة في القدم يرقي بعضها الى العصر البابلي ، ومن أهمها وأبرزها ،(14) . النص الصريح الوارد في لوح سبار المكتشف في تل ابي حبه الذي يبعد عن شمال غربي بابل بخمسين كيلومتر، حيث ورد اسم بغداد صريحاً بلفظة " بكدادا " في هذا اللوح الذي يرجع تأريخه الى القرن الثامن عشر قبل الميلاد زمن الملك حمورابي .
كما ورد اسمها في لوح اخر يرجع تأريخه الى 1341- 1316 ق . م بلفظة بغدادي ، وورد اسمها ايضاً بلفظة " بكدادو " في لوح اخر يعود تأريخه الى القرن 12 ق . م وورد اسمها بلفظة " بغدادو " في وثيقة تأريخية يرجع تأريخها الى سنة 728 ق . م زمن الملك الاشوري " تكلات بلاسر الثالث "
ان هذه الادلة الصريحة من اقوال وأثار خطية ، عضدت بعضها البعض ، فأرتقت الى مستوى اليقين والاطمئنان الكامل والذي لايقبل الشك ، بأن بغداد اسم عراقي اصيل عرفه سكان العراقي القدماء منذ اقدم العصور ، وأن اسمها بقي محافظاً على مكانته حتى يومنا هذا مع طول تلك الازمنة التي مرت عليه .

Baghdad is, an Arab city, which has occupied an important position in the history of the Arab and Islamic Nation being one of the most prominent civilization achievements of the Arab mind in engineering and construction fields. Many cities had been established, such as, Basra, Kufa, Qayrawan, Wasit and others, but Baghdad has exceeded all regarding fame and glory ever since its foundation in 145 A. H.
Baghdad is truly fantastic; it is a masterpiece of Arab thought in its creativity and originality. The greatness and fame of Baghdad are connected to the fame and glory of its founder, the Abbasid Caliph Abdullah Muhammad Al-Mansur, 136 A. H. - 158 A. D. Baghdad has preoccupied people's thoughts since its first appearance as a capital of an Arab state in the Abbasid era until now. It has attracted the attention of historians, geographers, writers, poets and archeologists that no other city has ever received. Arab and foreign researchers, in the past and now, have been interested in Baghdad. They had written about its plans, landmarks and what is remaining of its heritage, Al- Jahiz says "I saw the greatest cities in Rome, Sham and others, but I have never seen such a city, higher position, or better roundness, wide gates, or finer weather than the city of Abu Ja'far, as if it had been poured into a template, as if it had emptied"
Baghdad, the round city of Al- Mansur, as Al-Yaqoobi says :"is the great city which has no counterpart neither in the west nor in the east of the earth" .Baghdad still needs more search and investigation to uncover the secrets of its glory, greatness and its beauty over time. This study is focusing on highlighting Baghdad. It deals with its Iraqi name, selection, planning and the stages of Baghdad building to be the capital of the Arab State the "mother of the World, mistress of all countries".
Baghdad is an Iraqi and Arab name:
Historical sources and documents, and what archaeological excavations revealed, have emphasized that the name of Baghdad is an old Iraqi name and there are several evidences to improve its connection with the Iraqi people, in particular:
1. Al-Balathri says "Baghdad had been ancient, adopted as a Capital by Amir al-Mu'mineen….
2. Al-Yaqoobi says "Baghdad was not a developed city, I mean during the days of the Persians and the foreigners, rather it was one of Tasoh Badaweia villages... i. e., the village that named Baghdad before the Persians occupation of Iraq
3. Al-Hamadani says, concerning the name, the fame of Baghdad, and its commercial position in the world "Baghdad was an old city, founded by Abu Ja’far Al- Mansur, it was a market for China trade . If we know the long history of the commercial relationships between Mesopotamia and China, then we realize the importance of this text and its meaning. Baghdad and its market have been mentioned in the Arab liberation wars. Al-Tabari has referred to the events of 12 A. H. as Khalid Ibn Al-Walid had attacked a Baghdad market ... and directed Al–Muthanna to attack the market collection of Qudha'a and Bakr.".
4. Al-Tabari, Ibn Al-Jawzi and Al-Aeny had mentioned "Baghdad was planted for the Baghdadis. It had been named as Al-Mubarakah and it was owned by sixty Baghdadi people. Al-Mansur had satisfied and compensated them for their lands(9).
5. Al –Khateeb Al-Baghdadi had been quoted by Sheikh Abu Bakr as saying that "This saved name, Baghdad, was known in the past by Al –Mouathah. .
6. Ibn Rista had mentioned the description of Baghdad, "Baghdad is a name of a place that had been in this spot in the ancient time, it is Babylon. This means that its name is known since the time of the Babylonians.
7. What has been said by the orientalists such as, Jack Reseller who says "Baghdad was an old Babylonian city on the western bank of the River Tigris, while O'Leary says "Baghdad is an ancient city. It had been known during the Babylonian time as "Baghdada".
8. What has been revealed by the archaeological excavations referring to which, Listring says "according to the archaeological excavations executed by Sir Henry Rollinson in 1848 and during the dry season the water became lower than its normal level, this place had been the location of an ancient city due to its wide interface which had been built by Babylonian bricks and which borders the West bank of the Tigris in Baghdad. Each brick piece is stamped with the name of Nebuchadnezzar and his titles. A name like Baghdad had been found since that time in the Assyrian geographic excavations from the reign of Serdanabals. It probably refers to the city that existed in the position which became, later on the capital of the Caliphs ".
The name of Baghdad been stated explicitly in the newly discovered tablets dating back to ancient times some of which to the Babylonian era, the most notable one had been mentioned explicitly in Suppar tablet discovered in Tal Abi Haba, 50km Northwest Babylon, where the name of Baghdad had been written clearly as "Bakdada" in this tablet which is dated back to the 18th century B. C., King Hammurabi time.
Its name had also been stated in another tablet dates 1341-1316 B. C. as Baghdadi. In another tablet dates back to the 12th C. its name has occurred as "Bakdado". In a historic document dates 728 B. C., era of the Assyrian King Teglattblazzer III, it had been known as "Beghdadu".
These explicit evidences of sayings and written words have reinforced each other and elevated to the level of certainty and full confidence without any doubt, that Baghdad is an ancient authentic Iraqi name known by the Iraqi people since the ancient times, and its name preserved its position till this day in spite of the long time span that has passed.
Arabic to English: ASPECTS OF THE HISTORY OF WOMAN'S PUPLIC SERVICES IN BAGHDAD

يهدف هذا البحث الى تقديم مدخل لدراسة تاريخ الخدمات النسوية العامة في بغداد منذ اواسط العصر العباسي وحتى الحرب العالمية الاولى من خلال دراسة نماذج للمشاريع الخدمية المهمة التي أنشأنها او شاركن في انشائها وهي موزعة على اربعة محاور رئيسية:
• انشاء المساجد والجوامع والوقف عليها.
• انشاء مدارس ودور القران والوقف عليها.
• انشاء الربط والزوايا والوقف عليها.
• انشاء الخدمات الصحية والوقف عليها.
وسيظهر لنا من خلال هذا البحث, انه كان للمراة في العراق مبادرات واسعة ومتنوعة في مجال الخدمات العامة كافة, ولاشك في ان قيام هذه المبادرات يدل على تفهم كثير من النساء – في اكثر الحقب ركوداً - لحاجات مجتمعهن الاساسية, فانشاء المدارس العديدة كان يمثل في الواقع تقديرا لحاجة المجتمع الى العلم والثقافة, وتاسيس المساجد او الوقف عليها لادامتها كان في بعض اوجهه تفهما عميقا لحاجات المجتمع الروحية والاخلاقية, وانشاء الربط والزوايا والوقف عليها كان يمثل تقديرا لمشاكل اولئك الذين لامأوى لهم، من ناحية اخرى فان وقف الاوقاف الكثيرة على الفقراء والمحتاجين والارامل والايتام يقف دليلا على تفهم مشاكل تلك الفئات والتعاطف معها، ومن ثم فان ذلك كله يسجل مقدارا عاليا من "الوعي" لدى اولئك النسوة الصالحات .
وليس "الوقف" مجرد ايجاد مصادر ثابتة لتمويل مشاريع وانما هو يتجاوز ذلك الى انشاء مؤسسات حقيقية تخدم المجتمع وتقدم النفع العام، فوقف اراضي زراعية ودكاكين وخانات تجارية ودوره في وقفية ما، يستلزم ادارة كفوءة وامينة في آن واحد. ولقد سعى اصحاب الوقفيات الى اختيار (مسؤولين) تجتمع بهم هذين الصفتين لادارة مشاريعهم من بعدهم، الا ان سعة الوقف كان يستلزم دون ريب موظفين اخرين (ناظر، محاسب، ساعي، معقب، الخ) وهو هنا يعني تكوين مؤسسة فعلية، مستقلة في مصادر ثروتها تعمل من اجل تحقيقا اهداف الوقف.
ولم يكن دور إدارات هذه المؤسسات قليلا بأية حال, ففي المجالات التعليمية كان المتولي يمارس صلاحيات واسعة في اختيار المدرسين, واختيارهم, وفي عزلهم ان اقتضى الامر ذلك, وفي قبول الطلبة وتوفير الخدمات لهم, مما نص عليه الواقف. اما ادارة المشاريع المخصصة للخدمة الاجتماعية, مثل مساعدة الفقراء والارامل والايتام, فكان على المتولي ان يسعى لرعاية من يستحق العون بحسب المواصفات التي حددها الواقف وتشمل تقديم الطعام, والكساء, وتخصصيصات مالية احيانا.
وعلى الرغم من من صعوبة ادارة مؤسسات كهذه ودقتها, فأن المجتمع لم ير بأسا في ان تتولاها سيدات عرفن بالكفاءة والامانة, لذا فقد حفلت الوقفيات, بأسماء نسائية بصفتهم "متوليات" لادارة الوقف, وهو مايعني ان عددا كبيرا من المؤسسات الدينية والثقافية والاجتماعية كانت تتولاه المرأة باستقلال تام, نظرا لما يتمتع به الوقف نفسه من حصانة واستقلال, حتى ان المرء ليحار حقا كيف استطاعت نساء في مثل تلك الظروف ان يتولين مؤسسات خدمية كثيرة الموارد, متنوعة المصادر, مختلفة الخدمات ولفترات غير قليلة من الزمن .
وتحتل بغداد نسبة عالية من مشاريع الخدمة العامة التي أنشأتها نساء فضليات على امتداد تاريخها الطويل، وذلك على النحو الاتي:
انشاء المساجد والجوامع والوقف عليها
مسجد الحظائر:
أنشأته السيدة زمرد خاتون زوجة الخليفة المستضئ بأمر الله (566-575ﻫ/ 1170 -1180م) في موضع نزه من شرقي بغداد, مطل على شاطئ دجلة عند مشرعة عرفت, عصرذاك بمشرعة المزملا، مازال عامرا بالمصلين حتى يومنا هذا, شامخا بقبابه المعقودة على الطراز العباسي البديع, وبالمأذنة المزججة الرشيقة, وقد نسب اولا الى حظائر الشوك التي كانت قربه, ثم عرف في العهود المتأخرة بجامع الصاغة بسبب انتقال الصياغ الى السوق الذي عند بابه, ثم بجامع الخفافين لتكاثر صناع الخفاف في هذا السوق في العهود التالية.
وكعادة هذه السيدة في الاشراف المباشر على شؤون مؤسستها, اختارت بنفسها الشيخ عمر بن يوسف بن محمد بن نيروز البغدادي (541-611هـ/ 1145-1214م) ليكون امام مسجدها , وكان هذا الشيخ صالحا كثير العبادة خيّرا ثقة على ماوصفه معاصروه. وقد وجدت في هذا المسجد, خزانة كتب قديمة تضم نوادر المخطوطات, وصفها السيد محمد شكري الالوسي بأنها تشتمل على مخطوطات قديمة العهد, والكثير منها تلف بتداول الايدي وسجل السيد نعمان خير الدين الالوسي اسماء قسم منها في فهرس خاص وقفنا عليه ومن بقايا هذه الخزانة شرح مسلم للنووي بخط بديع محلى بالذهب, مخطوط سنة 100هـ وبظهره وقفية الخطوط
مسجد السيدة بنفشة ببغداد
امرت السيدة بنفشة بنت عبد الله زوجة الخليفة المستضئ بأمر الله العباسي (566-575 هـ/ 1170-1180م) بإنشاء مسجد كبير بسوق الخبازين من سوق الثلاثاء عند عقد الجديد في بغداد "فعمر عمارة فائقة, وكسي" وجرى افتتاحه في النصف من شعبان من سنة 573هـ/1177م, وكان اول من أمّ فيه بالناس الشيخ عبد الوهاب بن العيبي (وهو زوج ابنة العلامة ابي الفرح ابن الجوزي) وكان يقرأ القرآن ايضا. قال المؤرخ محمد بن سعيد بن البيثي الواسطي في ترجمته وقرأ القرآن الكريم وأمّ بالناس في الصلوات بالمسجد الذي أنشأته بنفشا عند عقد الحديد. وقال ابن النجار في ترجمته "وكان يصلي امام بالمسجد الجديد بسوق الخبازين عند عقد الجديد
جامع الوفائية
جامع قديم ببغداد , أنشأته او جددته السيدة وفاء خاتون بنت احمد افندي في القرن العاشر الهجري (16م) واوقفت عليه عدد من الدكاكين لتنفق وارادتها على تعمير الجامع وترميمه, ودفع رواتب العاملين فيه 8 .
وصادف ان عمر هذا الجامع والي بغداد اسماعيل باشا سنة 1110هـ/ 1798م ثم عمره سنة 1147 هـ/1734م والي بغداد ايضا الحاج اسماعيل باشا فعرف بالاسماعيلية نسبة الى مجدديه. ومع ذلك ظل اسم (الوفائية) حيا غير منسي يتردد على الالسنة, الى جانب الاسم الجديد, حتى الوقت الحاضر, وقد وصفه السيد محمود شكري الالوسي في اوائل هذا القرن بأنه "من مساجد بغداد القديمة العهد, فيه مصلى صغير, وفناء واسع وحجرة. ومازال الجامع عامر بالمصلين حتى يومنا هذا, وموقعه في السوق المسمى قبل سنوات بالكبابجية, قرب خان مرجان.
جامع الوزيرية
انشأت السيدة خاتون بنت بلاسم جامع الوزيرية في المحلة التي كانت تعرف بهذا الاسم, من محلات بغداد القديمة, وهي غير حي الوزيرية الحديث, ووقفت جميع القطعة المعروفة ببيت دراج "على المسجد الخدمة, منفعة دائمة, وثواب غير منقطع وصارت القطعة والغرس وقفا على المسجد المشهور في محلة الوزيرية وعلى الخدمة" وذلك في محرم 1149هـ/ ايار 1736م .
وقفية حسنى بنت عبد الله على جامع عمر السهروردي
وقفت السيدة حسنى بنت عبد الله بن فتحي من سكان بلاد روزين من مضافات مدينة بغداد الحديقة التي تملكها في القرية المذكورة "المشتملة على ثلاثين شجرة نخل والمعروفة بإسم بستان محمد وعبد الله فتحي" على تعمير مرقد الشيخ عمر السهروردي ببغداد بموجب وقفيتها المؤرخة 28 ذي العقدة 1157 هـ /23 تشرين الثاني 1745م .
جامع عادلة خاتون
من مبرات السيدة عادلة خاتون (1112هـ - 1182هـ/1700م - 1768م) بنت احمد باشا والي بغداد (من 1136 الى 1160 هـ / 1723-1747م) وزوجة والي بغداد سليمان باشا ابي ليلة (1162-1175هـ/ 1749-1761م) انها انشأت في الجانب الشرقي من بغداد جامعين نسبا اليها, احدهما جامع صغير كان يقع في محلة الدنكجية (مقابل المتحف البغدادي حاليا) وفرغ من عمارته سنة 1162هـ/ 1749م وفقا لحساب شطر التاريخ من ابيات كتبت في مدخله والاخر كبير يقع في منطقة مهمة في وسط شارع النهر (شارع المستنصر) مقابل المحكمة الشرعية في الجانب الشرقي من بغداد, وقد استغرق العمل فيه –لسعته وكثرة مرافقه –عدة سنوات, بين 1163هـ/ 1750 و1168هـ/1754م كما يستدل من عبارات التاريخ في الابيات الشعرية التي كانت تزينه.
وتكشف وقفية هذه السيدة على جامعيها, المؤرخة في سنة 1170هـ/ 1757م عن جسامة ما خصصته من اموال للانفاق عليها, وعلى العاملين فيها, وتضم الوقفية :
بستان تقع خارج باب المعظم 12 وخان في محلة سوق الصفافير وخان عند جامعها الكبير, واسكلة خشب مقابله له, ومقهى وبئر ودولاب على دجلة ودكاكين متفرقة في سوق الدنكجية, وفي سوق الغزل, وفي رأس الجسر وقرب خان الاورتمة (خان مرجان القديم) وفي سوق السراي, وغير ذلك. وقد شرطت ان تدفع من واردات هذه العقارات, رواتب العاملين في الجامعين اولا, ثم اجور الماء والفرش والحصران والاباريق وتنوير الجامعين في ليالي رمضان.

انشأته السيدة الحاجة فاطمة خاتون بنت بكتاش بن السيد ولي سنة 1185هـ/ 1719م في محلة الشط, من محلات الجانب الشرقي من بغداد قديما (يقع الجامع اليوم مقابل مبني البريد المركزي القديم، وبلصق المدرسة الثانوية المركزية) والحقت به سقاية وعينت فيه عددا من العاملين, ورتبت لهم الرواتب, منهم الامام, والخطيب, والواعظ, وستة من المؤذنين ومؤذن المحفل, والمشعلجي (الموكل بالانارة) وخادم السقايا, والكناس, وحامل السيف, والكليدار, وغيرهم ووقفت لذلك عددا من العقارات, منها خان الصاغرجية في سوق رأس الجسر ببغداد, ويشتمل على ثلاثين حجرة, والمقهى قرب الخان, والدكاكين الأربعة القريبة من الخان والمقهى, والمخبز الواقع مقابل "لخان الكيجةجية" والدار الملاصقة للمخبز والدكان المتصلة بالدار والدكان الملاصق للمدرسة الوفائية, ودار الحرم قرب الجامع, والديوان الصغير وحصص عديدة من بساتين في قصبة مندليجين (مندلي) وفي مقاطعة الخالص, وذلك بموجب وقفيتها المؤرخة في شعبان سنة 1185هـ/ 6 تشرين الثاني 1771م)
مسجد حاجية خاتون
مسجد كان يقع في محلة الإمام طه في الجانب الشرقي ببغداد, أنشأته السيدة حاجية خاتون بنت محمد, وأوقفت عليه أوقافا كثيرة, تشتمل على دكاكين وبساتين في بغداد وخارجها, منها دكاكين في سوق السلطان ( قرب الميدان) واخرى في سوق الطويل, وخان قرب المصبغة واقع بين جامع الصياغ (وهو جامع الخفافين) وشاطئ دجلة (وباغجة) حديقة الشماع في قصبة الإمام الأعظم وباغجة أخرى في القصبة نفسها, وبستان على نهر علياوه في مندلي, مع الأرض الخالية المعروفة ببستان جميلة.
وقد شرطت هذه السيدة المحسنة التولية على اوقافها لنفسها, ثم لاولادها, ثم "لاعلم من في البلد" يأخذ اربعة اخماسه, ويصرف الباقي الى المسجد. وسجلت الوقفية في جمادي الاولى سنة 1187هـ /1773م
توفيت الواقفة سنة 1207هـ /1792م.
وقفية رحمة بنت امين على مسجد التسابيل ببغداد
مسجد قديم ينسب الى المحلة المحيطة به، وقفت عليه السيدة رحمة بنت الحاج امين الملا خضير الدكان الواقع في سوق العطارين, بحسب وقفيتها المؤرخة في 10 صفر 1234هـ/10 كانون الاول 1818 م . فكان ذلك الوقف سببا في تعميره في السنة التالية .

Aspects of the History of Woman's Public Services in Baghdad
This research aims at presenting an access to study the history of woman's public services in Baghdad since mid-Abbasid era until the World War I by examining examples of service projects that had been established by women or the projects women participated in their establishment. This study is divided into four main axes:
1. Establishment of mosques and masjids provided by devoted endowments.
2. Establishment of schools and centers for recitation of Qur'an provided by devoted endowments.
3. Establishment of worship Rubat and Zawaya provided by devoted endowments.
4. Establishment of health services provided by devoted endowments.
This research shows that women in Iraq had a wide variety of initiatives in all fields of public services. No doubt that these initiatives indicate women understanding of the basic demands of their society in the most depressed periods. The establishment of the numerous schools represented the actual need of the society for knowledge and culture. The establishment of mosques or providing them with endowments to maintain them represented, from certain stands of view, a deep understanding for the spiritual and moral needs of the society. Worship Rubat and Zawaya erection and providing them with endowments represented an understanding of the homeless people problems. The numerous endowments for the poor, needy, widows and orphans, on the other hand indicate women understanding andsympathy for the problems of these social slices. These deeds, in fact, mark high awareness among those good women.
Endowment is not a mere foundation of stable funds to finance projects; rather, it exceeds this to create real institutions serve the community and present public utility. The endowment of agricultural lands, shops, commercial khans (inns) and the management of any endowment require both qualified and honest people. The Endowment donators sought to choose officials who are characterized by both of these capacities to manage their projects after them, but the endowment required, undoubtedly, other employees (warden, accountant, courier, pursuer, etc). This means the setting of an actual foundation uses its wealth resources freely and functions to achieve the goals of the endowment.
The role of the managers of these foundations had not been trivial anyhow. In the field of education, for instance, the person in charge had the right to practice wide powers, to nominate teachers; fire them, if necessary; accept students and provide them with the services stipulated by the endowment donator .As for the management of the social service projects, such as, helping the poor, widows and orphans, the endowment manager had to look after people who deserve support according to specifications stipulated by the endowment donator. The specifications include offering food, clothes, and financial dedications sometimes.
Despite the difficulty and the required accuracy for managing such institutions, the community had no objection against their management by woman well known for competence and honesty. so the endowments have been abound with names of women as "manager" to run endowments which means that a large number of religious, cultural and social institutes fully ran by woman. Since endowment itself has immunity and independence. So that one really puzzled how woman, in such circumstances, was able to run and look after service institutions with many and various resources, and different services for long periods of time.

ENDOWMENTS
Mosque of Al- Hathair:
This Mosque has been established by Mrs. Zumurrud Khatoun, the spous of the Abbasid Caliph Al-Mustathi Biamer Allah (566- 575 A. H./ 1170- 1180 A. D.) on a promenade spot in the Eastern part of Baghdad, overlooking the Tigris bank at a point had been known, by then, as Al-Muzzamilat water-taking point. The mosque is still up to now a day crowded with great masses of prayer performing people, proud of its Abbasid magnificent style architecture domes; its graceful glazed minaret. The mosque, at the beginning, had been imputed to Al-Hathair (hutches) of thorns which had been nearby. During the later periods it became to be known as the mosque of goldsmiths (Al-Sagha), because goldsmiths had moved to the market next to the mosque gate, then it had been called as the mosque of the tanners (Al-Khafafeen) mosque because shoe maker had crowded in that market in the following eras.
According to her custom in supervising her organization affairs personally, she had chosen Sheikh Omar Yousif Mohammed Nairouz Al-Baghdadi to be her mosque Imam in (541- 611 A. H. / 1145-1214 A. D.)(1). Sheikh Omer was a good, pious, charitable and trusty man (2) according to his peers’ description (3). An Old bookcase with rare and ancient manuscripts has been discovered in the mosque. According to Mr. Mohamed Shukri Al-Alusi, it contained ancient manuscripts many of which have been damaged due to handy circulation (4). Mr. Noaman Kheir Ul-Deen Al-Alusi listed some of their titles in a particular index which I have seen (5). Among the remaining of that bookcase is Muslim’s explanation of Al- Nawawi’s book, written in a wonderful handwriting and had been ornamented by gold. It had been scripted in 100 A. H. (6).
Mosque of Lady Banafsha in Baghdad
Lady Banafsha Abdullah, the spous of the Abbasid Caliph Al-Mustadhi’ Biamer Allah (566-575 A. H. / 1170-1180 A. D.) ordered to establish a grand mosque at the Bakers Market, a secondary market of Al- Thulatha (Tuesday) Market, which is located at Al- ‘Akd Al –Jadid in Baghdad. “It had been built highly” and inaugurated in the middle of Sha’ban 573 A. H. /1177 A. D. Sheikh Abdul-Wahab Luaibi (son-in-law of the religious scientist Abi Al-Faraj Al-Jawzi) had been the first Imam to lead prayer performing people. He had been reciting the Glorious Qur’an as well in the mosque established by Lady Banafsha at Al- ‘Akd Al –Jadid. Mohammed Saeed Albaithi Al- Wasiti, describing him had said: "He had recited the Glorious Qur’an, led people performing prayers in the mosque established by Lady Banafsha at Al- ‘Akd Al–Jadid". Ibn Al-Najjar says in his biography "He was the Imam of new mosque at the Bakers’ Market at Al- ‘Akd Al-Jadid” (7).
Mosque of Alwafaiyah:
An old mosque in Baghdad, established or renewed by Lady Wafa Khatoun Ahmed Efandi in the 10th century A. H. (16th A. D.). She endowed a number of shops for the mosque to spend their incomes for the mosque maintenance and restoration, and pay its' employees salaries (8).
It happened that the governor (Wali) of Baghdad, Ismail Pasha maintained this mosque in 1110 A. H. / 1798 A. D. And then, the governor of Baghdad Haj Ismail Pasha maintained it, too in 1147 A. H. /1734 A. D. so it became to be known by his name. However the name (Al -Wafaiah) remained in use, along with the new name, up to the present time. Mr. Mahmoud Shukri Al-Alusi, in an early time of this century, has described it as "One of Baghdad old mosque, with small chapel yard, extended court and a room. The Mosque is still populous with prayer performing people up to now a day. It is located near the so called Al Kabachiyah market, next to Khan Murjan.
Al -Waziriya Mosque
Lady Khatoun Balasim has established Al-Waziriya mosque in the district holding the same name, an old districts of Baghdad. It does not relate to the modern Waziriya district. She endowed the entire plot which was known as Bait Daraj "for the mosque service, as a permanent utility, and a perpetual reward. The plot and the plants became an endowment of the famous mosque and of its service in Al-Waziriya district in Muharram 1149 A. H. / May 1736 A. D. (9).
Hosna bint Abdullah endowment on OmarSuhrawardimosque
Lady Hosna Abdullah Fat’hi, of the country of Rosin (10), an additive of Baghdad city, endowed her own garden in the aforementioned village, "Containing 30 date palm, and known as the orchard of Mohammad and Abdullah Fat’hi” to reconstruct the shrine of Sheikh Omar Al-Sahrawardi, in Baghdad according to her endowment dated 28th of Dhu'l-Qi’dah 1157 A. H./ 23rd of November 1745 A. D. (11).
Mosque of Adilah Khatoun:
Two mosques erected by Lady Adelah Khatoun (1112-1182 A. H. / 1700-1768 A. D.), daughter of Ahmed Pasha, governor (Wali) of Baghdad (1160 A. H. / 1723-1747 A. D.) and spouse of Baghdad governer, Sulayman Pasha Abi Laylah's (1162-1175 A. H. / 1749-1761 A. D.) in the eastern part of Baghdad. One of them has been a small mosque located in Aldukanchiah district (Opposite to the current Baghdadi Museum) the architecture of which accomplished in 1162 A. H. / 1749 A. D. according to the verses written on its entrance. The other one has been a big mosque, located in an important area in the middle of Al-Nahr Street (Al – Mustansir Street) opposite to the Personal Status Court in the eastern part of Baghdad. The work lasted for several years - due to its volume and its many facilities (from 1163 A. H. / 1750 to 1168 A. H. / 1754 A. D.). Poetic verses (that decorate the place) present the evidence of the mentioned histories.
The document of Adilah Khatoun's endowment, dated in 1170 A. H. / 1757 A. D. reveals that she spent plenty sums of money on her two mosques and their employees. The endowment included a garden located outside Bab Al-Mua'tham(12), an inn in the coppers’ market, another inn at her grand mosque, a wood wholesale place located against it, a coffee shop, a well and a water wheel on the River Tigris, scattered shops in Aldukanchiah market, Al-Ghazil marker, near the bridge, near Al-Aortma inn (the ancient Khan Murjan), Al- Sarai market, and else. She stipulated that the salaries of the two mosque employees should be paid from the incomes of those real properties first, and then, the fees of water, mattresses, mats, pitchers and the fees to enlighten the mosques during the nights of Ramadan
Al- Nu'maniyah mosque
Lady Fatima Khatoun Bektash Al-Saed Waly has established Al- Nu’maniyah mosque in Al-Shat district, one of the ancient districts in the eastern part of Baghdad in 1185 A. H./ 1719 A. D. The mosque is located opposite to the old Central Post-office, attached to the Central Secondary School now a day). A water providing service had been annexed to it; a number of workers had been appointed and arranged their salaries. These included: Al-Imam, Al-Khateeb, a preacher, six muezzins and an occasional one, (Enlightenment man) servant for watering, sweepers, sword holder, Al-klidar, and others. Lady Fatima endowed a number of properties, including Al-Saghirchiyah 30 rooms inn at Ras Al-Jisr market in Baghdad, a coffee shop, near the inn, the four shops near the inn, the bakery on the opposing of "Khan Al-kichachiyah", the house next to the bakery, the shop annexed to the house, the shop next to Al-wafaiyah school, the altar house near the mosque, a small Diwan and many shares of orchards in mandljeen (Mandili) town and in Al- Khalis county, according to her endowment dated in Sha'ban 1185 A. H. / November, 6th , 1771 A. D. (13)
Hajiah Khatoun mosque
Hajiah Khatoon Mosque had been located in Imam Taha district (14) at the eastern part of Baghdad. It had been established by Hajiah Khatoun Mohammed who endowed many shops and orchards inside and outside Baghdad, such as, a number of shops in Sultan market (near Al-maidan area), other shops in Al-Taweel market, an inn located near Al-Masbagha between Al-Sagha (Al–Kkhafaeen) Mosque on the Tigris bank, and (Bahchah), Al-Shama'a garden in the borough of Imam Aadham and another bahchah in the same borough, an orchard on ‘Aleaoah river in Mandili, with barn plot known as Jamilah orchard.
This good charitable lady stipulated to run her endowments herself, then by her children, then by "the best informant person in the town". The endowment custodian shall receive four-fifths, and spent the rest for the mosque. The endowment had been recorded in Jamadi the first, 1187 A. H. / 1773 A. D. (15).
The endowment donor, Hajah khatoun died in 1207A. H. /1792 A. D.
Rahmah Amin's endowment for Al-Tasabeel mosque in Baghdad
An old mosque attributed to its surrounding district. Lady Rahma Haj Ameen Al-Mulla Khadir had endowed a shop located in Al- Atareen market for it, according to her endowment on the 10th of Safar 1234 A. H. / Dec., the 10th, 1818 A. D. (16). This has been the reason behind its reconstruction in following year (17).
Endowment of Khadija Khatoun for Baghdad and Al-Zubair mosques
Khadija Khatoun Al- Sharif Al-Chalabi had looked after a number of mosques in Baghdad, and a mosque in the town of Al-Zubair. She had endowed three orchards known as Al-Rawaf orchards,(18) according to her husband’s name, Hajj Mohammad Al-Rawaf, a Najd origin man. The orchards are located outside Al-Bab Al-Sharqi in Baghdad. She had also endowed a house in Al-Naqasheen district, next to Murjan mosque for herself, first, then for her husband, and then for her offspring, and for five mosques in Baghdad .they are:
1 - Al-Sadah mosque at Al- Sinak district (between Al-Taq Al-Adhlam and Al-Sinak market).
2 - Al-No'mani Mosque
3 - Dhaheer Al-Deen mosque, at Al- Hiyak inn.
4 - Shops of Grain mosque (in the shops of grain district)
5 - Al-Ihssai mosque at Ras Al- Qaryah district (near Al-Adeliyah inn).
In addition, she had endowed one mosque in the town of Al-Zubair, Rawaf mosque, near (Al-bzazeen “cloth sellers” market).
The total amount that she had allocated to finance these mosques had been as large sum as (1740) piney annually, to be spent for the mosques maintenance, imams and mua'zzins salaries, providing pure drinking water, enlightenment fuel (19) according to her endowment dated in Thul Hijjah, 15th 1236 A.H. /15th of September 1820.
This good lady was born in 1210 A. H. / 1795 A. D., and died in 1257 A. H. / 1841 A. D.
Endowment of Lady Asmaa for Dhaheer-Al-Deen mosque
This is an old mosque, the establishment date of which is unknown, the mosque is between Al Muraba’a district and Al- Hajj Fathi(20), an old eastern of Baghdad district.
Lady Asmaa Ali had endowed her house located at Al–Hayyat district for Dhaheer Al-Deen mosque. She had issued a written document on 25th Safar 1236 A. H. / 1820 A. D. (21)
Mosque of Mahboubah Khatoun
This mosque had been established by al Hajj Mahbouba Khatoun at the eastern part of Baghdad in 1237A. H. / 1821 A. D.(22)
Endowment of Rahmah Abdul Karim Chalabi for the mosque of Khidir Bek in Baghdad
Khidir Abdullah Abdul-Jaleel Bek, of Al-Hilla origin, (one of the princes of Hilla) had established a mosque at Qanbar Ali district in Baghdad in the 12th C. A. H. / 18th C. A. D. in 1200 A. H. /1785 A. D.
Lady Hajj Rahmah Khatoun Abdul Karim Chalabi (of the same family) had looked after the mosque of Khidir Bek in 1212 A. H. / 1797A. D. She had endowed her shares in the orchards of Al- Hajj Shuhaib, Abbas Mohammed Najm, Ali Salman, Hajj Abd Al-Mutairi, a half of Ahmed river bank; Almalhous river bank. According to her endowment in the 10th of Ramadan 1239 A. H./ the 10th of may 1822 A. D.(23)
