Portuguese to English: Youth and Rebelliousness festival Catalog General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Cinema, Film, TV, Drama

Translation - English Is the youth synonym for rebelliousness? Or did the youth become a simple advertising trend? In June of 2014, will be completed one year since the great public manifestations began to occur all around Brazil. The protesters, comprising mostly of young people - if we define them only by age - have achieved space within the great national and international media. Since then the protest continued, with lesser intensity, but always with the same purpose: change. In the same manner that the Youth and Rebelliousness festival was not elaborated from the public manifestations of June 2013, it does not try to simply reflect upon the protests.
Therefore, we ask: is rebelliousness intrinsic to young people? At the same time that juvenile alienation is being discussed, around the world there are movements popping out that scream: we are not satisfied. Such as all unsatisfaction, it is originated from the environment, the society in which such movements are inserted. And also presents itself with a proposal of change, a path pointed out. Within this context, the cinema, an art that has always been supported by the young, becomes crucial to understand the past and the present and to speculate upon the future.
The Youth and Rebelliousness Festival brings to Rio de Janeiro’s Caixa Cultural 14 contemporary movies, produced in the last 20 years, by different directors and nationalities that concern the representation of the young in its political and social context. During two weeks, the public from the Fluminense capital will have the opportunity to see memorable works, with the beauty and sensuality of youth and the iconic strength of movies which deal with the transformation and interference in the social surroundings, in its many aspects.
Consecrated and awarded directors such as Danny Boyle (Trainspotting), Ken Loach (Sweet Sixteen), and Mathieu Kassovitz (La Haine), as well as other filmmakers who are not in the mainstream, such as Stuart Townsend (Battle In Seattle), Shane Meadows (This Is England) and Olivier Assayas (Something in the Air), discuss relevant and omnipresent themes of nowadays: drugs, political terrorism, sex, education, music, violence, protests. Some of these movies were not even commercially released in Brazil or they are already out of catalog; this way, the Youth and Rebelliousness festival gives this unique opportunity to many carioca spectators, so they may watch these great works.
The curatorship was assembled from a wider specter of the meaning of being young and rebellious, with the selected movies picturing young people searching for answers against the oppression imposed upon them. Right or wrong, conscious or naive: it does not matter. They only give back to society what they have received from it. Or as in the ending sentence of La Haine: “It is the story of a society which falls and repeats, during the fall, as to comfort itself: ‘So far, so good. So far, so good. So far, so good.’ The important is not the fall, it’s the landing.”

Translation - English ABSTRACT – For a Performative Theatre in Pirandello: a brief dialogue with Deleuze and the theatre of repetition – This article is the result of practical research in the field of performing arts, with emphasis on processes and artistic achievements in studies focused in Pirandello’s scene studies. In search of a theatricality built from the intersection between theatre and performance, the dramaturgy of the Italian author is investigated from its head node: the acknowledgement by the playwright himself of the theatre’s unpower of representation. In this article, we organize documents and reflections derived from a year of practical activities around the Italian author’s scene and dramaturgy, revisited from a performative theatricality, in light of Deleuze’s concept of the theatre of repetition.
