Source text - Spanish A book filled with interiors that will relax you so badly, that the holiday feeling will automatically be prolonged. This inspiring work of Gina Lazenby is based on the trend Feng Shui that is rapidly gaining popularity: the Chinese art of creating order out of chaos, to find the balance between the poles. Feng Shui means wind and water, and you already get it, that represents serene rest. Feng Shui also (luckily) deals with the terror of busy busy busy, and you should start with that at home, thinks Lazenby.
Clearly and passionately she shares her opinions about what she calls “Acupuncture for the house”, in which the keyword is light and space. Because emptying the house, and the head too, that’s salutary. Excess furniture has to go, because he who creates space, says the author, makes room for creative flows of energy, or ‘chi’. Balancing these invisible energy lines, that’s what it’s about in this book, that is actually more of a living book than a housing book, with interesting insights and beautiful pictures. It’s only dazzling that the English cannot even renounce their niggling floor lamps in such beautiful serene-oriental interiors.

Dit inspirerende werk van Gina Lazenby is gebaseerd op de snel aan populariteit winnende stroming die Feng Shui heet: de Chinese kunst om orde te scheppen in chaos, om evenwicht te vinden tussen tegenpolen. Feng Shui betekent wind en water, en u begrijpt het al, dat staat voor serene rust. Feng Shui rekent dan ook (gelukkig!) af met de terrreur van druk druk druk, en daarmee moet je thuis beginnen, vindt Lazenby.
Helder en gedreven geeft ze inzicht in wat ze noemt ‘acupunctuur voor het huis’, waarbij het toverwoord licht en ruimte is. Want het huis leegmaken, en het hoofd eveneens, dat is heilzaam. Overtollig meubilair vliegt eruit, want wie ruimte schept, weet de auteur, maakt plaats voor creatieve stromen energie, ofwel ‘chi’. Het balanceren van deze onzichtbare energielijnen, daar gaat het om in dit boek, dat meer een leefboek is dan een woonboek, met interessante inzichten en mooie foto’s. Alleen verbijsterend dat de Engelsen zelfs in zo mooie, sereen-oriëntaalse interieurs geen afstand kunnen doen van hun tenenkrullen tuttige schemerlampen.

French to Dutch: Jacques Derrida
Source text - French Aucun philosophe n’était si forcement discuté comme Jacques Derrida, qui mourut hier à l’age du 74 aux conséquences du cancer du pancréas. Son œuvre philosophique appartient aux plus importants produits d’exportations intellectuelles de la France aux Etats Unis et la reste du monde. Il peut être nommé celui qui ferme la philosophie du vingtième siècle.
Derrida est né le 15 juillet en 1930 dans une famille juive. Quand il avait 19 ans il déménageait à Paris, ou sa carrière comme spécialiste philosophe initialement menaçait de passer sur la manière française : il étudiait là et plus tard il devenait principal assistant à l’Ecole Normale Supérieure. Là, depuis la dix-neuvième siècle, il concentrait sur la vie philosophique française.
« Les structures détermines tous, l’homme rien » c’était la dominante dans l’univers mental de Paris aux années soixante. Le père (spirituel) de cette pensée était l’anthropologue Claude Lévi-Strauss et dans ses traces étaient Roland Barthes, Michel Foucault, Jacques Lacan et Jacques Derrida. Jacques Derrida voyait chaque texte écrit comme une machine qui en soi, produisait signification, sans instance d’auteur. Les concepts essentiels de la philosophie de Derrida son « déconstruction » et « différence ». Il développait une méthode pour manier de textes écrits : tout d’abord avec des textes philosophique, mais aussi avec des ouvrages littéraires, qui selon lui ont le plus grand prétention pour fixer les sens une bonne fois. Derrida essayait de montrer que chaque texte repose sur des procès de sens continûment changeants. Dans son ouvrage, il développait des stratégies qui minaient la tradition occidentale de l’intérieur. Il faisait ça souvent d’une manière peu conventionnelle et ludique, par laquelle il tournait quelques de ses critiques très nerveux.
Ce n’est qu’aux dernières années que Derrida déplaçait son attention de la littérature à la politique et à l’éthique, du féminisme sur l’armement nucléaire à la migration. Pour cela, il devait prendre un virage plutôt grand du relativisme postmoderne vers un universalisme. Derrida jouissait de nouveau toute attention dans la presse avec des thèmes comme l’amitié et l’hospitalité. Il prendrait de plus en plus conscience que la responsabilité politique de l’intellectuelle aujourd’hui n’est plus dans un message révolutionnaire, mais dans la langue et l’ordre culturel par lesquelles le message est communiqué.

Hij moest daartoe een nogal grote bocht maken van zijn postmoderne relativisme naar een universalisme. Derrida genoot weer volle aandacht in de brede pers met thema’s als vriendschap en gastvrijheid. Hij werd er zich steeds sterker van bewust dat de politieke verantwoordelijkheid van de intellectueel tegenwoordig niet meer gelegen is in een revolutionaire boodschap, maar in de taal en het culturele bestel waardoor die boodschap overgebracht wordt.
