As these studies have progressed, they have lent increasing strength to concerns that human activities may be influencing the fitness of these animals; although the links between short- and long-term impacts are being forged primarily for small, closed populations of coastal odontocetes (i.e., bottlenose dolphins (Bejder 2005, Bejder et al. In press, Lusseau 2004, 2005, SC/58/WW7) and killer whales (Williams 2003, SC/58/For Info. 18)). Certainly, vessel-based whalewatching can elicit short-term behavioural responses from large baleen whales (e.g., humpbacks: Scheidat et al. 2002; fin whales: Jahoda et al. 2003). On their migration routes, whalewatching in a fixed location will diffuse impacts of whalewatching on individual baleen whales, however the Peninsula region of course represents critical feeding habitat for humpback whales. In the most frequently visited sites, individuals may be approached repeatedly.

Este processo de urbanização foi conseqüência de modernizações sucessivas, reflexos de uma modernidade alheia. Com a importação das primeiras máquinas agrícolas, o sistema de escravidão ficou inviabilizado. Passou-se de um sistema com energia humana, lento e altamente desgastante, para um sistema mecanizado, que exigia bem menos mão-de-obra. Houve ainda uma substituição do escravo pelo camponês europeu já adaptado às novas condições de trabalho. Segundo Darci Ribeiro, o monopólio da terra conseqüência do sistema latifundiário e a monocultura de ordem exportadora promoveram a expulsão da população do campo rumo às cidades.
Translation - English Brazil stops being eminently agrarian in order to become an urban country in the 20th century, with 80 percent of the Brazilian population concentrated in cities. This urbanization process was a consequence of successive modernizations, reflections of others’ modernity. With the importing of the first agricultural machines, the slavery system became unviable. From a human-powered, slow and highly wasting system, the country turned to mechanized system that demanded much less workforce. There was still a replacement of the slave for the European peasant, already adapted to the new work conditions. As per Darci Ribeiro, the land monopoly, a consequence of the latifundium system, and the monoculture for export promoted expelling the people out of the country into the cities.
