baby-boule Explanation: Your idea sounds right to me; given the previous reference to chestnuts, they probably played an improvised game of boule using chestnuts instead of real balls. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 27 mins (2004-12-31 11:17:48 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Is the poem a translation or written by a non-German? The word order seems a bit unnatural, and in particular \'Aber Gestern Wir spielten...\' is a very strange construction, and there doesn\'t seem to be any particular reason to use it for meter, syntax or whatever. |

mini bowls Explanation: I think that might do it (or "mini pétanque"). I know there is also "carpet bowls", which I played as a kid, but that is an indoor version of lawn bowls. I think we should remember poetic licence is permitted here - inluding the coining of words. I googled "mini bowls" - not a wonderful result (sse below).
