German term or phrase: Geheimer Postrat
....im 1898 fertiggestellten, vom Geheimen Postrat Ernst Hake entworfene Postmuseum.

I think this is some kind of pre-WW1 Austrian title. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.

Explanation:
Occurs a couple of times on Google, appears to be direct translation of German. As to what it *is* exactly, I don't really know...:-)

agree  Lancashireman: Yes, Goethe was a privy counsellor (Geheimrat) at the Weimar court. The ‘Post’ element is a mystery. // Apparently both are correct :-)

-> Ah, am I wrong with my "councillor" spelling then?

agree  Rolf Buesken (X): 'Councillor' as per Oxford/Duden Dic.; I think priv.c. should stay together, i.e. priv. c. at/for the post office/postal service.

agree  mstkwasa: Great title - and it is "councillor". Long live Kakania!

-> yes, it is a great title, I might adopt it...

agree  BrigitteHilgner: given that I live in this country, all these Austrian titles (still alive and kicking, although not the "Geheime Postrat") make me puke!
