neutral  Yorkshireman: The expression is "choppy" - I've never seen the word "chop" used for waves or swell. We live and learn! THX. I get the impression that this app may be more for freshwater anglers - terms used for sea or beach angling would be different.

-> Hi Yorkshireman, I know "choppy" but have also come across "chop" as a sea state many times (used commonly in marine forecasts). Just my two cents worth as otherwise I'd find "calm" a little out of place in this list... More context would be helpful.

Explanation:
If this is what is meant:

You chop up the worms as groundbait which is scattered to attract fish to where you are casting your hook bait.

You can look it up on German angling forums.

Supposed to be better than maggots/mealworms - quelled hemp seed used to be good, but people kept planting it to grow dope :-)

I used to make groundbait from balls of breadcrumbs, maggots and hacked lobworms, which dissolves slowly on the river/lake bed and disperses with the current (also used casters as groundbait - maggot chrysalis) for coarse fishing - i.e. anything except salmon, char and trout, which are game fish)

I assume that the app is some kind of fishing diary.

The bait used, using a spinner or spoon as artificial bait, reeling in after a long cast, wet or dry fly fishing, calm in the sense of not turbid water, chop = groundbait (whether used or not) and fish caught as a proof of whether the methods used were successful for the particular waters being fished.

BTW:
Trolling - angling by drawing a baited line through the water
Spinning - using an artificial lure that spins, wiggles or flashes to attract predatory fish (good for pike, Zander or perch)
Fly fishing - using artificial insects tied around the shaft of a hook for:
a) dry fly fishing- the "fly" is just "dabbed" be on the surface where a trout or salmon is suspected to be
b) wet fly fishing - the fly is carried by the current after casting - i.e. the materials it is made of soak up water and the fly sinks
