Catalan term

Catalan to English Other Zoology
I have been over and over this one and not really getting very far:

Many thanks

a bundle/cluster of waterways that deep down it is

Most references to block fascicles are medical and refer to a grouping of nerves. I think given the context, the author is trying to communicate that "deep down/in reality(my personal preference albeit a re-write for "en el fons") the oceans are a cluster or a bundle of waterways that have merged together
Example sentence:

Literally, a bundle. In particular, this is used to describe the tendency of neurites to grow together (fasciculate).
