German to English Medical Patents Embolic protection device
Hi,

This is a descriptor in three-dimensional space from medical engineeering in the field of aids in heart surgery:

DE:

An embolic protection device basically makes sure that no fine particles go to the brain during and after heart surgery in order to prevent an embolism. It basically covers an entrance to the aortic branches like a lid with a filter at its centre would. (Quick layperson's description in order to ease answering the question although I could do better here.)

I have looked into "proceeding (in the direction of)" and "continuing (in the direction of)". Not sure about those though.

Best regards,

Further explanation, taken from the actual patent Through this arrangement, when the filtering unit is successfully positioned haptic feedback is passed on to the user.
A further effect is that the >> cerebral vessels << are better covered.

Thanks, Marga.

Typo corrected: medical engineering.
Marga Shaw Nov 23, 2021:
@ Sebastian I also thought of 'continuing' first, but I like 'extending' better in this context,
e.g. a filtration surface extending in the direction of flow??
Sebastian Witte (asker) Nov 23, 2021:
