Discussion

Mehmet Hascan Oct 31, 2007:
Dear mamamia, firstly, it was not a fairy tale. It was real and happened.
Please see the comments from native English speakers:
Ken Cox "Whatever you do, *don't* use teeny-weeney, itsy-bitsy, or the like (too childish and potentially derogatory"
Mariette van Heteren (asker) Oct 31, 2007:
I forgot to say, also the double 't' in teeny tiny, gives strength and the ending on 'y' makes it little! Thats what was in my mind!
Mariette van Heteren (asker) Oct 31, 2007:
I choose for teeny tiny, because it is also a two-in-one description, because of the long list of alternatives Taner Bey give with it and because petite means in French just little and has nodouble meaning fot me. Besides that most of all important for me the term comes out of the book 'Su Çılgın Türkler' and is sayd about Halide Edip. I know her only from this context but here she is described as a little but very strong woman, who is going to speak to the women in Ankara in the war! I think is like a fairytale and petite has for me not the same double term strength in this context! Hope you understand!
Ali Bayraktar Oct 30, 2007:
mamamia, what's the reason of your selection? You have selected this answer despite peer agreements, and I am wondering the REASON of it?
Mehmet Hascan Oct 30, 2007:
''teeny-weeny (tiny) = minicik, minnacık'' demektir ve böcek vb için kullanılır. Kadınlar için ancak ya Hollywood filmlerinde ya da masallarda kullanılır. Buradaki bağlamla alakası olduğunu sanmıyorum.

neutral Mehmet Hascan : - minicik - demektir. böcek vb. gibi küçük nesneler için kullanılır. ''teeny weeny'' = a word meaning very small - used especially by children or when speaking to children - http://www.proz.com/kudoz/2226241

Teşekkürler Mehmet Bey!
agree yesimbradley : considering this is a biographical novel "petite" would be suitable here. on the other hand for more colloquial usage you may say "teeny weeny" or "teeny tiny" or if you aim at the scottish market you can say "wee"
