The rake-type soot blower, type RB, is a soot blower designed for being used in steam generators. It serves for the cleaning of above all finned tube heating surfaces or plate heat exchangers the heat transmission properties of which are adversely affected by slight fouling in most cases. By cleaning the heating surfaces a better heat transfer is achieved and thus a constant efficiency of the boiler can be assumed. The use of soot blowers therefore contributes to retaining the projected boiler output.

The rake-type soot blower is part of the boiler system. The fouled heating surfaces are cleaned during boiler operation.
