Als die russischen Panzer und das Ende Großdeutschlands nahten, hatte sich Gehlen Anfang April 1945 mitsamt Stab und seinem einzigartigen Schatz an Informationen über die Rote Armee in die bayerischen Alpen abgesetzt. Dort begab er sich in amerikanische Gefangenschaft.

disagree Erich Friese : literally translated = settled, but 'retreated to' would probably be better...YES tea leaves settle, BUT ......so do humans (e.g. I settled in Australia)

when tea leaves "sich absetzen" in the tea, they settle. But when human beings "sich absetzen", they make a run for it. // du hast dich in Australien niedergelassen, bis immigriert... aber nicht "dich nach/in Australien abgesetzt" :-)
