English to Serbian: Welding Skills and Technologies (Preface) General field: Science Detailed field: Metallurgy / Casting
Source text - English I wrote this book for many reasons. Two of the most important are to help train you as quickly as possible to become a skilled welder and to give you enough facts so you can quickly learn new welding and cutting procedures and solve problems on your first welding job. That often means reading other books, welding specifications, magazine articles and welding procedures, and this book gives you the background to do that. The words and ideas you will learn from this book will open up a huge resource of other people's experience which you will be able to understand and use. Several of the chapters in this book and the Appendix include references to some of these other resources, and I have listed them just when and where you are most likely to need them in the future.
As much as you want to light up a torch the first day you open this book, we don't want you to. Once you have learned what torches are, how to select and use the tips, hoses, regulators, cylinders, and all the other things that go with them, including oxygen and fuel gases, and even the kind of clothes you should wear, you will be ready for your first handson work.
The first chapter of this book is about welding jobs. The last chapter is about getting welding jobs.
Everything in between is about learning the skills needed to land a job as a welder. Review Questions follow nearly every chapter.
You can use these to review some of the highlights of the chapter or to test newly acquired knowledge without the aid of the instructor. Wherever they apply, Shop Practice sections are included at the end of chapters. These sections give detailed step-by-step instructions on various kinds of shop work.
The chapters in this book are organized in such a way that you can progressively develop your manual skills. For example, a discussion of mechanical properties of metals, often left out of other welding textbooks, is presented in Chap. 8. This prepares you to read the rest of the book, because you can't select filler metals without understanding mechanical properties. In the same way, oxyfuel welding techniques are introduced (in Chap. 9) prior to a discussion of electric-arc welding. The oxyfuel welding skills that you develop will make electric-arc welding much easier to do.
Safety is a subject we do not let you forget. Chapter 3 on oxyfuel safety begins with a discussion of safety procedures, and this subject is repeated throughout the book in various ways. Special symbols have been used to call out specific safety procedures. A silhouette of man symbol followed by the word caution means the possibility of bodily injury. The word careful preceded by the gear symbol means the possibility of equipment, tool, or material damage. Safety is your responsibility and ultimately yours alone.
The latest technology is covered extensively at the end of the book. There you will find discussions of laser and electron-beam welding; welding manipulators, positioners, and turning rolls; temperature-indicating crayons; and pneumatic (air-driven) grinders and chipping hammers. Various types of welding robots are illustrated in Chap. 22, because by that point you should be skilled enough in welding to be able to program welding robots to weld.
Translation - Serbian Napisao sam ovu knjigu iz više razloga.
Tu ćete naći razmatranje o zavarivanju laserom i elektronskim snopom, zavarivanju laserom i elektronskim snopom, zavarivačkim manipulatorima, pozicionerima, i okretaljkama, krejonima za pokazivanje temperatura i o pneumatskim (pokretnim komprinovanim vazduhom) brusilicima i čekićima.

Years of experience: 20. Registered at ProZ.com: Jan 2011.
I discovered my passion and interest for translation while I was searching for new information and findings in metallurgy and mechanical engineering fields in the scientific journals published in English and when I decided to convey and share some of the findings with my colleagues in Serbia. I have twenty-five years of experience in metallurgy field which includes scientific and industrial research. My areas of English-Serbian translation expertise are: metallurgy, mechanical engineering, physics, and chemistry and my largest translation project so far is the translation from English into Serbian of the book Welding Skills and Technology written by Dave Smith and published by McGraw-Hill, New York.
