Ladders
Ladders are best used as a means of getting to a workplace. They should only be used as a workplace for short term work. They are only suitable for light work.
If ladders are to be used, make sure:
• The work only requires one hand to be used, the work can be reached without stretching, the ladder can be fixed to prevent slipping, and good handhold is available.
However this work can still be dangerous – many ladder accidents happen during work lasting less than 30 minutes. The longer the ladder, the more problems there are in using it safely. It gets harder to handle, is more difficult to foot effectively and it flexes more in use. Make certain there is no better means of access before using a ladder. Also remember that if personnel have to use a ladder in several places, which requires them to constantly move the ladder, it is possible that carelessness will creep in.
In order to use a ladder safely, the person should be able to reach the work from a position 1 metre below the top of the ladder.
Many accidents result from using ladders for a job when a tower scaffold or mobile access platform would have been easier, safer and more efficient.
Make sure light tools are carried in tool belts or shoulder bag so that both hands are free or climbing. Heavy or bulky loads should not be carried up or down a ladder but lifted with a gin wheel or other lifting equipment.
For the safe use of a ladder it needs to be strong enough for the job and in good condition, always check before using:
• The stiles are not damaged, buckled or warped, no rungs are cracked or missing and any safety feet are not missing, Do not use makeshift or home made ladders or carry out makeshift repairs to a ladder. Do not use painted ladders, the paint might hide faults. Ladders made for DIY purposes might not be strong enough for site work. Do not attempt to repair ladders.
Check the ladder is secure. More than half of the accidents involving ladders happen because the ladder was not prevented from slipping. Ladders are only safe when they rest on a flat solid surface. Do not place them on loose bricks or packing. They should also be secured by rope or other suitable stabilizing devices.
Ladders should be at an angle of 1 in 4 when used for climbing e.g. a 4 meter high ladder should be 1 meter out at base.

توصيات لوزان للاستخدام الامن لشنطة العدة
السلالم :
تستخدم السلالم الاستخدام الامثل لها كوسائل للوصول لموقع العمل . و يجب أن تستخدم في الموقع للأعمال قصيرة الأجل ، إذ تتناسب مع الأعمالل الخفيفة .
وإذ تم استخدام السلالم – فيجب أن نتأكد من :
أن يتطلب العمل استخدام العمل يد واحدة فقط ، و يمكن أن يصل العمل بدون أن يستطيل بجسمه لأعلى ، و أن يكون السلم مثبتاً ليمنع احتمال الانزلاق ، و أن يكون له مقبض يد جيده .
ولأن العمل الذى يستخدم فيه السلم من الممكن أن خطراً ، فإن كثير من حوادث السلم تحدث خلال الأعمال التي تدوم لمدة لا تقل عن (30) دقيقة . و كلما ازداد السلم طولاً ، كلما زادت امشاكل التي نسعي لتأمينها .
و كلما ازداد السلم صلابة ، كلما ازدادت صعوبة ثنية تحت الأقدام أثناء العمل .و يجب أن تتأكد من عدم وجود وسائل أفضل قبل أن تستخدم السلم .
و يجب أن نتذكر أن أذا ما اضطر عامل ما أن يستخدم السلم عدة مرات في عدة أماكن فيجب عليه أن يتأكد من أن يثبت السلم جيداً ليمنعه من الانزلاق اذا عامل السلم باهمال . ولكي تستخدم بطريقة آمنه / فيجب على الشخص القائم بالعمل أن يكون باستطاعته لوصول لمكان العمل بمسافة لا تقل عن نهاية طرف السلم بطول (1) متر .
و نتجنب كثيرمن الحوادث بسبب استخدام السلم عندما نتم عملا به وبرج الثقالة أو الجزء المتحرك وهو أكثر سهولة ، وآمان ،فاعلية .
و نتأكد من أن الأدوات الخفيفة ُتحمل في العدة أو حقيبة الكتف لتتيح لكلتى اليدين الحرية في الصعود أو التعامل مع السلم . و لا يجب أ نستخدم الأحمال الزائدة صعودأً و نزولاً علي السلم بل ْترفع بعجلة رفع الأحمال .
و يتطلب الاستخدام الآمن للسلم أن يكون قوياً بدرجة كافية لاتمام العمل ، و بحالة جيدة ، و عادة ما يتم فحصه قبل الاستخدام .
الأ يكون جانب السلم مدمر (ملتوي، أو معوج) ، سلمه معوجه أو مكسورة أو مفقودة ، و لا تستخدم السلالم البديلة أو المؤقتة أو يدوية الصنع أو تلك التي تم اصلاحها من قبل . وكذلك السلالم المدهونة أذ يخفي الدهان الأخطاء . السلالم من النوع DIY هي تلك التي تصلح للاستخدام في الموقع .
وفحص السلالم آمن و ضروري و ما يزيد عن نصف حوادث السلالم ناتجة عن ان السلالم لا تمنع الانزلاق .فهي تكون آمنة عندما توضع علي مكان صلب مستو . فلا تضعها عل يطوب لين أو سطح رخو و كذلك مؤمن بحبل .
و السلالم يجن أن تكون بنسبة 1 الي 4 فعندما نتسخدم سلم طوله 4 متر فيجب أن يكون 1 متراً بعيدا عن القاعدة
