Nichole Strydom, Director Buying Men Textile at Zalando shares her predictions on the menswear trends we’ll be seeing in Autumn Winter 22.



Summary:

The disruption of the pandemic had fast-tracked technology, creativity and a need to escape and enjoy life to its fullest. We see a shift to occasion wear, over-accessorizing coupled with bold colours, opulent materials that feed the renewed desire for dressing up. We have seen a shifting customer demand away from the Basics and essentials we sold strongly in the last two years like Sweat, Knitwear, and underwear, back into more statement fashion and occasion wear.



Men’s trends that will continue into FW22.



1. “SCI-FI Reality” as our physical and digital realities become more enmeshed, this trend embraces designs with an escapist edge – think space-age minimalism, mystical motifs and bold architectural shapes. The disruption of the pandemic has fast-tracked technology and designers are forced to conceptualize digitally. This is the new forefront of fantasy, science, and magic in the metaverse. (e.g Nike,GCDS,)



2. We see the rise of the “Collegiate Preppy” theme being re-invented and merged with the strong streetwear trend. (e.g. Lacoste, Gant, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo Ralph Lauren)



3. “Urban Outdoor” – this trend explores the merging of Outdoor and Lifestyle. Original outdoor styles are re-worked as a take down version into Lifestyle. We see this across Outdoor Brand specialists (e.g TNF, Columbia) offering lighter fabrication and more fashion options and Denim leaders (e.g Levi’s,Frame Denim,) expanding into Outerwear.



4. “Elevated Simplicity” – this trend champions the move to home-work-play lifestyles coupled with sustainable well-designed basics. As the home continues to transition to a hub for work, wellness and play, consumers will be taking a more curated approach to the products they surround themselves with (e.g Samsøe Samsøe,Mads Nørgaard).



5. Lastly, the strong shift to an all-inclusive assortment.This is clearly seen in our performance across Genderless Assortment growing double figures vs the non-genderless assortment(4.2M new customers purchased a genderless article in their first order in 2021)Heading into HW22 we expect to see an even greater demand and have planned to double our assortment offer across key categories.Brands supporting this demand include YourTurn,Han Kjøbenhavn,and Makia to name a few.

Prerušenie pandémiou malo za následok priamu cestu k technológiám, kreativite a potrebu utiecť a užívať si život naplno. Vidíme posun v obliekaní pri rôznych príležitostiach, s mnohými doplnkami spojenými s odvážnymi farebnými akcentmi, opulentné materiály, ktoré dodávajú obnovenú túžbu nahodiť sa. Vidíme posun dopytu zákazníkov mimo Basic kúskov a nevyhnutností, ktoré sme intenzívne predávali počas posledných dvoch rokov ako oblečenie na šport, pletený tovar a spodná bielizeň a návrat späť k viac tematickej móde a odevom pri rôznych príležitostiach.

Pánske trendy, ktoré budú pokračovať v sezóne jeseň-zima 2022.

1. “SCI-FI realita” ako sa naše fyzické a digitálne podstaty a reality stávajú viac prepletené, tento trend zahŕňa štýly s únikovým nádychom – myslíme kozmický a futuristický minimalizmus, mystické motívy a odvážne architektonické tvary. Prerušenie pandémiou malo za následok priamu rýchlu cestu k technológiám a návrhári sú nútení vytvárať pojmy digitálne. Toto je nové popredné postavenie fantázie, vedy a zázrakov v metaverze. (napr. 2. Vidíme vzostup témy “Internátny preppy štýl” ako znovu-nájdený a skĺbený so silným trendom ako je pouličný štýl. (napr. Lacoste, Gant, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo Ralph Lauren)

3. “Mestský outdoor” – tento trend objavuje spájanie vonkajšieho oblečenia a životného štýlu. Pôvodné outdoorové štýly sú prepracované ako rozobratá verzia do Lifestyle trendu. Vidíme to medzi všetkými špecialistami na outdoorové značky (napr. TNF, Columbia), ktorí ponúkajú ľahšie zhotovenie a viac moderných možností a lídri v denime (napr. Levi’s, Frame, Denim) ako expandujú do oblečenia Outerwear.

4. “Povznesená jednoduchosť” – tento trend presadzuje posun k životnému štýlu domov-práca-zábava spájaným s udržateľne dobre navrhnutými základnými kúskami. Ako sa domov postupne premieňal na centrum na prácu, oddych, relax a zábavu, zákazníci budú mať oveľa dôkladnejší prístup k produktom, ktorými sa budú obklopovať (napr. Samsøe Samsøe, Mads Nørgaard).

5. Napokon, silný posun ku kolekciám obsahujúcimi všetko. Toto je jasne viditeľné v našej výkonnosti naprieč Bezpohlavnými kolekciami, ktoré rastú dvojcifernými číslami verzus nie bezpohlavnými kolekciami (4,2 milióny nových zákazníkov si zakúpilo bezpohlavný výrobok v ich prvej objednávke v roku 2021). Keď smerujeme k domácej úlohe roku 2022 očakávame oveľa väčší dopyt a máme naplánované zdvojnásobenie našej kolekcie, ktorá ponúka oblečenie naprieč kľúčovými kategóriami. Značky podporujúce tento dopyt zahŕňajú YourTurn, Han Kjøbenhavn a Makia, ak spomenieme len zopár.
