1. Βρίσκεστε εδώ, στην Αθήνα, ξανά στην πιο επώδυνη ίσως περίοδο που βιώνει στη σύγχρονη εποχή η ελληνική κοινωνία. Μια κοινωνία που, επί δύο χρόνια, ακούει την Ευρώπη να την κατηγορεί ότι είναι η ίδια υπεύθυνη και «ένοχη» για τα δεινά της. Πιστεύετε ότι, όντως, η Ελλάδα βιώνει δικαίως μια «τιμωρό» κρίση; Είναι ελληνική η κρίση, ευρωπαϊκή ή παγκόσμια; Είναι κρίση οικονομική ή κρίση με ρίζες πολιτισμικές και αξιακές;

2. Είστε φιλόσοφος, αλλά στα μεγάλα πολιτικά ζητήματα και μέτωπα του πλανήτη έχετε λειτουργήσει περισσότερο ως ακτιβιστής. Την πολιτική ηγεσία της εποχής μας την εμπιστεύεστε; Τους ηγέτες της Ευρώπης, τον αμερικανό πρόεδρο Ομπάμα? (Ο Μπαράκ Ομπάμα στην πρώτη του εκλογή ταυτίστηκε με την παγκόσμια ελπίδα για αλλαγή – την δικαίωσε αυτή την ελπίδα?)

3. Μετά από μακρές αναζητήσεις, μέσα από το Κίνημα των Νέων Φιλοσόφων, απορρίψατε το Μαρξ και επιστρέψατε στον Θεό – τον Θεό της Βίβλου. Ποιος είναι αυτός ο Θεός? Και τι μας προσφέρει? Έχουν γίνει πολλοί πόλεμοι και εγκλήματα κατά της ανθρωπότητας στο όνομα του ενός Θεού…

4. Εκτός από τον Θεό έχετε απορρίψει και την Αθηναϊκή Δημοκρατία – την άμεση Αθηναϊκή Δημοκρατία. Την
έχετε χαρακτηρίσει «ολοκληρωτική» - είπατε, χαρακτηριστικά στο περιοδικό L’EXPRESS ότι «πρέπει να ξεχάσουμε την Αθήνα». Έχετε δεχθεί έντονη κριτική γι αυτή την άποψη. Γιατί ήταν – και είναι, αν θα μπορούσε να ξαναυπάρξει – ολοκληρωτική η άμεση δημοκρατία?

5. Πώς μπορεί ο Νόμος, η Βίβλος, η Τορά να υποκαταστήσει την δημοκρατία? Πώς υποκαθιστά η μονοθεϊστική θρησκεία την πολιτική? Συνιστά πολιτική, από μόνη της, η επιδίωξη του «καλού»? Τα μέσα, ο άνθρωπος, οι ανάγκες του τι ρόλο
παίζουν σ’ αυτή την επιδίωξη του
«καλού»;

6. Έχετε πει επίσης ότι ο πειρασμός του ολοκληρωτισμού εμπεριέχεται σε κάθε «προοδευτική» ιδεολογία. Ποια είναι η προοδευτική ιδεολογία σήμερα, μετά την αποκαθήλωση και αποδόμηση του κομμουνισμού, και ποιος είναι επίσης – στη δική μας, σύγχρονη εποχή – ο πειρασμός του ολοκληρωτισμού?

7. Είστε φιλόσοφος, συγγραφέας, πολυεκατομμυριούχος – σας λένε αμφιλεγόμενο, επικοινωνιακό, σέξι και ενίοτε αλαζόνα. Ποιος είστε τελικά?

8. Από πού σας πήρε και πού σας οδήγησε η φιλοσοφική αναζήτηση? Και τι είναι φιλοσοφία στις μέρες μας? Ένας επώδυνος διανοητικός τοκετός ή μια «πολυτέλεια» διανοητικής περιπλάνησης που τη δίνει η άνεση της οικονομικής ισχύος;

Translation - English
1. You are here in Athens again, maybe during the most agonizing crisis that contemporary Greek society has gone through. A society that, for the last two years has been blamed by Europe for being responsible and “guilty” for its own hardships. Do you think that Greece is really experiencing a “retributive” crisis? Is this crisis Greek, European or global? Is it an economic crisis or does it have its roots in culture and in social values?
2. You are a philosopher, but in the serious political issues and political fronts of our planet, you have acted more as an activist. Do you trust the political authority of our times? How about European leaders and President Obama? (On his first election, Barack Obama was identified with global hope for change-did he fulfill that hope?)

3. After long spiritual quest through the New Philosophers Movement, you rejected Marx and returned to God- the God of the Bible. Who is that God? What does He offer us? Many wars have been made and may crimes against humanity have been committed in the name of a God…

4. Apart from God, you have also rejected the Athenian Democracy-the direct Athenian Democracy. You have described it as “totalitarian”-you specifically said in L’EXPRESS magazine that “we must forget Athens”. You have been intensely criticized for that view. Why was - and would be, if it could ever exist again- direct democracy totalitarian?

5. How can Law, the Bible, the Torah substitute democracy? How does monotheistic religion substitute politics? Does the pursuit of “good” itself constitute politics? What role do the means, the man and his needs play in that pursuit of “good”?

6. You have also said that the temptation of totalitarianism is encapsulated in every “progressive” ideology. Which is the progressive ideology nowadays after the debunkery and deconstruction of Communism and which is in our times the temptation of totalitarianism?

7. You are a philosopher, a writer and a multimillionaire- they say you are controversial, communicative, sexy and at times arrogant. Who are you after all?

8. From where did philosophical quest take you and where did it lead you? What is philosophy in our days? Is it weary intellectual labor or is it a “luxury” of intellectual meandering that the comfort of economic power allows?

Bio
I hold a BA(Hons) in English Language and Literature from the National and
Capodistrian University of Athens and I am currently teaching English as a foreign language as well as Greek as a foreign Language in Athens. Furthermore, I have been teaching both Greek and English online for three years on verbalplanet.com and fluentfuture.com. I also work as a translator. I attended a translation course in 2007 and have been collaborating with some translation agencies since then (TRANSLATED/ European Translation Centre). I am a musician (soprano) too, so music is one of my areas of expertise as far as translation is concerned.
