CI（Corporate Identity）とは、「企業の特質・全体像を大衆に認知させること」。まだ、ソニーが小さな名も知れない会社で、日本にCIという言葉すら生まれていなかった頃、ソニーはCIを無意識のうちに重要視し、「ソニー」というブランドを広く、強く、世界に知らそうとした。／1995年。井深や盛田が率いる東通工は、小さいながらも世界に羽ばたくために、誰にでも発音できる世界共通の商標をと、“SONY”の四文字の商標をつくった。

Corporate Identity (CI) is defined as, “A business’s defining characteristic”, or “How a business is overall recognised by the public”. Back when SONY was still a small company, in the time when even the word CI hadn’t yet come to Japan, SONY was unconsciously attaching great importance to strengthening the SONY brand, and trying to make it widely known around the world. ／ in 1995. The Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation, led by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita, despite being small, created the 4 letter “SONY” trademark with the idea that anybody could pronounce it in mind, in order to spread the company wings and go out into the world.
