English to Romanian: Fragment from "The Mill on the Floss" by George Eliot
General field: Art/Literary
Detailed field: Poetry & Literature

He had never been one of those poor-spirited sneaks who would refuse to give a helping hand to a fellow-traveller in this puzzling world. The really vexatious business was the fact that some months ago the creditor who had lent him the five hundred pounds to repay Mrs. Glegg had become uneasy about his money (set on by Wakem, of course), and Mr. Tulliver, still confident that he should gain his suit, and finding it eminently inconvenient to raise the said sum until that desirable issue had taken place, had rashly acceded to the demand that he should give a bill of sale on his household furniture and some other effects, as security in lieu of the bond. It was all one, he had said to himself; he should soon pay off the money, and there was no harm in giving that security any more than another. But now the consequences of this bill of sale occurred to him in a new light, and he remembered that the time was close at hand when it would be enforced unless the money were repaid

Toate intr-una, si-a spus in sinea lui; va plati in curand banii si nu era nicio paguba mai mare decat celelalate, in a oferi siguranta.
Romanian to English: Fragment from "Felix si Otilia" by George Calinescu
General field: Art/Literary
Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Source text - Romanian
Zarind pe Felix, Otilia il chema in soapta:
- Ce faci? Vino aici!
Uf!

When he got to the glass veranda, which looked out into the garden, he could see Otilia sitting at an open window. The conversation downstairs and the incident about the piano must have irritated her and now she had taken refuge here, without Pascalopol loosing sight of her. Catching the glimpse of Felix, she whispered to him:
- What are you doing? Come here!
When Felix had leaned against the window's wing, Otilia whispered again:
- You can't imagine what a shrew that aunt Aglae is! Oh!
As if suspecting some enmity, Aglae, who had seen them passing-by under the moonlight, said loudly, from downstairs:
- Otilia, bring him tomorrow to us!
[...]
Pascalopol begged Otilia to come downstairs. For fear that the landowner might get upset, Agale compromisingly joined him:
- Otilia, come downstairs, why are you sitting there?
Otilia waved Felix good-bye, while he entered his room and went to bed. Very late at night, when he suddenly woke up, the darkness seemed to fade away little by little and a rooster was singing. Felix seemed to hear the crack of the front Gothic door and shortly afterwards, the rolling down of carriage wheels.
